French Bulldog Breed Standard
BRINDLE

Brindle Frenchies have a base coat of fawn hairs through which black hairs extend in bands to produce a coat that can range from a tiger brindle in which fawn hairs predominate to the more common dark brindles in which the black hairs predominate. In some dogs, the black hairs are so numerous there may only be what the French Bulldog standard refers to as a “trace of brindle.” This expression would means a few clusters of a few fawn hairs showing somewhere on their body. The fawn coat can be from a light fawn all the way to a deep chestnut red fawn.

In brindle you might hear terms like tigger brindle, red brindle, black brindle, reverse brindle and so on.

Brindle dogs can have a black mask over their faces. They can also have a white chest, white paws like socks, white line between their eyes or around their neck.

Fawn with Black Mask
Black masked fawn frenchie’s can come in a wide range of shades, from a light champagne fawn tones, to a kind of faded “cardboard” tone, all the way to a intense chestnut red fawn tone. All these are correct and accepted by the breed standard.

Usually fawn frenchie’s will have a black mask over their faces. This black mask can cover up most of their face or be more like wearing black eyeliner with intense black lips pigment. Often overtime this most will fade and shrink with age.

As with any other pigment over a frenchie body this black mask should be black. Not grey or blueish or brown but pitch black.

Their eyes should be dark and matching. Not blue, green, yellow.

Three years ago our “Red wine” litter (Litter XX) was created by taking a LOLA D’ARTEP ROUGE and adding AS’MILETTE DON MAVERICK. We absolutely loved the results…So much that we just recreated the blend…and oh boy we are so pleased with the results. _ …you have new siblings ❤️
