Today was a great day in cat rescue for us!
First off, the two 6-7 month old brothers Dijon and Denver who we advertised just two days ago have found a lovely home. They had been abandoned by their owners and were being looked after by a kind lady who allowed them to sleep on her veranda.
There are introductions to be done to the existing cats in the home but we are confident these boys will pull it off with aplomb, and they have amazing new parents who, Iβve no doubt, will show them the ropes and give them so much love.
For a few days Iβve been helping a lady set traps at a local school where her beautiful calico, Darcy, ended up when she went missing from her home. With Endless Pawsibilities Animal Communications in our corner, itβs a matter of time until we find her.
This morning she had a cat in my trap but it wasnβt Darcy.
We figured the cat was feral and he was whisked off to the vet. The message came back: already neutered, had no ear clip and he was not chipped.
A sterilised cat with no ear clip means he belongs to someone and is not feral.
Then I remembered that a lady who had previously fostered a kitten for me had a cat go missing when she was looking after someone elseβs cats. Her cat left home in April. I sent Brenda a quick message to ask what her cat looked like (tabby with white tummy) and forwarded the photos of the cat in the trap. She said it could be her cat and she sent me pics of her cat. I was pretty sure it was the same cat by the face markings but suggested she go and have a look, she rushed off to the vet and itβs her cat!
ππΌππΌππΌ woohoo! Oreo is back home, safe, warm, loved and now chipped!
Some of you may remember a rescue we took part in, in Phoenix around May where we were frantically trying to dig up a garden to get two kittens out of a storm water pipe? Brenda and her partner were there with spades and shovels, helping to dig until 2am. I have to wonder if little Simba and his sibling had perhaps given Oreo a nudge towards the trap?
These are the days that keep us going: three boy catsβ lives have changed today ππΌπ

A little peek at our Victoria Street rescue babies and mom cat - theyβre doing so well and looking so beautiful in just two days of settling in, getting lots of good food and lots of love, just the way it should be.

Gingers are the clowns of the cat world!
This little guy was trapped with a broken leg, he has been all fixed up, neutered and vaccinated.
The trapper kept him until his leg was healed and heβs now ready to rock a new home, much to her dismay because she canβt keep him.
Heβs around a year young (still a baby) and would love to be your love-bug!

THROWN OUT LIKE TRASH!
We received a message today about a mom cat and 4 kittens in Victoria Street who had been kicked out on the pavement and needed to be picked up urgently.
It seems that the mom cat lived in a shop there and when she had kittens, they were all tossed out. The kittens were put into a bucket, just 4-5 weeks of age.
The pictures spoke a thousand words of sadness to us and we jumped into action.
Carla who was out on the road was quickly diverted, she picked up Jacone and Fiona sent her husband and son, armed with tuna!
Mom cat had run into another shop but luckily they managed to catch her while the kittens were safely in the car.
The little family is now safe with a foster. Mom cat is a lovely tame girlie who will need to be sterilised very soon.

Her beautiful babies will be ready for adoption in 3- 4 weeks time.

FERALS AND PARASITES!
Not all ferals or strays have ticks or fleas. BUT if they do, it is INCREDIBLY difficult to treat them as sadly there is no medication that can be taken orally. Treatment is usually in a dropper form that needs to be placed on the back of a cat's neck and for the majority of ferals, this is an impossible feat!
There is an easier and cheaper solution!
Diatomaceous Earth - food grade!
It can be bought online or from your local nursery or health shop.
It can be sprinkled over cat pellets every 3 months for about a week. I usually add some to a bucket of pellets and shake until the pellets are lightly coated. The cats dont even seem to notice the difference.
So this happened.
Sweet girlie Rosie was taken in by an amazing foster, Tracey.
Rosie was about to pop and gave birth to 3 kittens.
Tracey was keeping a close eye on her because her tummy was still quite large and she was about to rush her off to the vet.
Well blow me down, Rosie had two more kittens 24 hours later!
All this time she had been eating, waltzing around and feeling very proud of herself.
Cathy called me and broke the news this morning. Something Iβve never heard of!
Kitten season has started earlier than normal this year and we are bracing ourselves for the influx.
Rosieβs babies will be ready for adoption in 8 weeks time, Rosie will also be looking for her own forever home.
Trapping in Greenwood Park:
It was a nice easy one yesterday with 4 cats trapped in half an hour.
3 beautiful young calico girls and the trouble-causer Daddy cat, the tabby male.
Heβs as wild as they come but is more subdued tonight after a day at the vet. You almost want to scratch his head! π

NEW BABIES!
It seems that no sooner had kitten season ended and it is starting again. We had a brief respite for a few weeks but still had a few kittens coming in.
Yesterday I received a call about some kittens that were found, theyβre correctly with the lady who found them.
So 3 little gingers will be going to our lovely foster, Anisa, tomorrow. Theyβre around 7 weeks of age.
Arenβt they gorgeous?
The Tuxie has been adopted by the lady who had the kittens.
While we do our best to change the lives of these innocent little souls, just as important are the mom cats who need to be sterilised; they must never be left to have litter after litter. We must always treat the root of the problem.

Sometimes life can turn 360 degrees in an instant! This little one was trapped at a business park off Umgeni Road last night while the security was trying for two other kittens weβd been alerted to. I went back to fetch her and while she was terrified after being trapped, I wasnβt convinced she is completely feral. By this morning she was howling all the way to vet and I asked Tracey if she was going there to please check her because I would be at work. It turned out sheβs completely tame and she even found a home through a client at the vet! This kitty has gone from rummaging in a scrapyard to a loving home in just a few hours πππ Wow!
