Archie-mobile is up and running!
Archie came to First Stride with a intervertebral disc injury. He was responding well to physiotherapy, but did suffer a few set backs which led to slower rehabilitation.
It was decided to get Archie his own wheelchair. He can take a few steps on his own, but now he can do it with support for his back and enjoy a good bark-a-thon with his 2 siblings.
Archie was fitted for a custom wheelchair from the fantastic Pet Pedics.
So here is to more tail wagging adventures for this handsome boy!
❗Please be aware that physiotherapy and veterinary intervention is advised before considering a wheelchair.
Selecting and fitting the chair correctly for your pet is important to ensure they don' t become overly reliant on the chair and still receive sensory stimulation from various surfaces - this is particularly true is pets with a degree of mobility or sensation - that they do not develop pressure sores.

Cara doing weave cavaletties
Cara is a lovely Swiss Sheperd who has a chronic iliopsoas strain that developed after a injury to her hip region by a porcupine quill some time ago.
A iliopsoas is the muscle that lies underneath the lumbar spine and is responsible for protection of the hindlimb (bringing it forward) as well as rounding of the lumbar spine (flexion) during high speed gaits such as a gallop. It also stabilizes the limb in stance.
If it can be injured if the dog overstretches the muscle (e.g. its legs slip out from underneath it) or it can become shortened from chronic altering of a dog's posture due to injuries and orthopaedic issues in the hind legs and sometimes the spine.
Cara is performing cavaletti weaves to
🔹️ improve her spinal flexibility
🔹️strengthen her core musculature
🔹️improve her proprioception
