Reasons to microchip your pet.

**Permanent Identification**
Unlike collars and tags that can fall off or be removed, a microchip provides a permanent form of identification for your pet. It's a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, implanted under your pet’s skin and contains a unique ID number.

**Quick Recovery**
If your pet gets lost, having a microchip greatly increases the chances of being reunited. Animal shelters and veterinary clinics can scan the microchip to retrieve your contact information and quickly get in touch with you.

**Simple and Safe**
The microchipping procedure is quick and safe, similar to a routine vaccination. Your pet won't even need anesthesia, and the process is virtually painless.

**Cost-Effective**
Microchipping is a one-time expense that provides lifelong identification. Considering the peace of mind it offers, it's a small price to pay for the safety of your pet.

Feel free to share your experiences with microchipping or ask any questions in the comments!

Stay safe and give your pets an extra hug today!

A bitter sweet update for our AVC clients

Dr. Gabriela Naidoo will be leaving the Abbotsford Vet Clinic at the end of the month as she embarks on a new journey in her career.
Dr Naidoo will be managing a rabies campaign for the South African Veterinary Association.
The campaign was created to assist with the ongoing rabies outbreak in the BCM metropolitan. The campaign aims to eliminate rabies in the Eastern Cape by 3 years through education of the community and vaccination of cats and dogs.
Dr. Naidoo’s dedication and compassion has always shone brightly, and we have no doubt that she will thrive in this new role.
Wishing her continued success and fulfilment in this next chapter of her career.

Unfortunately we have seen a high influx of positive Parvo cases.

Parvovirus is a highly contagious and fatal virus that affects dogs under the age of two years old. The virus primarily attacks the gastrointestinal tract and bone marrow leading to the following symptoms.

Symptoms of parvovirus in dogs include:

Lethargy
Vomiting
Severe diarrhea
Dehydration

The virus is transmitted through contact with contaminated f***s, environments, or objects. It is resistant to many disinfectants and can survive in the environment for an extended period.

Vaccination is the only preventive measure against parvovirus. Puppies should receive a series of vaccinations to build immunity. Prompt veterinary care is essential if a dog shows signs of infection.
There is no cure but treatment typically involves supportive care, including intravenous fluids, medications, and isolation to prevent further spread.

Please contact us for further information ℹ about vaccinations.

🐾🎇 Attention Pet Owners: Fireworks Alert! 🎇🐾

🌟 As we gear up for some New Year's Eve celebrations, let's spare a thought for our furry pals. 🐶🐱 Fireworks might be dazzling for us, but they can be downright terrifying for our four-legged companions. 🚫💥

🔊 The loud noises and bright lights can send pets into a panic, causing stress and anxiety. Let's be mindful and take extra precautions to keep our furry friends safe and calm during the festivities. 🤗

🏡 Create a cozy space indoors, turn on soothing music, and consider using calming products to help your pets relax. 🎶🐾 Share this post to spread awareness and ensure a stress-free celebration for our beloved pets! 🙌❤️

We support NO FIREWORKS for New Years! Enjoy the evening with your friends and family, but leave those fireworks alone!
