Feedback from Dayspring Training Jumping Show 🀠🐎

4 horses and 6 riders entered. We rode our horses over on Friday, Dave setup a night camp for the horses so they had a good nights rest before the show. For most of our riders it was their first show but each and everyone with their horses did exceptionally well. We pride ourselves in producing well rounded partnerships between rider and horse, congratulations to each and everyone of you. There were some very special combinations yesterday and many amazing memories have been made. We then took a quiet stroll home so that covered our 20km endurance training for the weekend too πŸ˜‰

Thank you to our entire team for all coming together and making this happen.

Pictures will be uploaded soon πŸ˜‰

This a disscution that us distance junkies often have.
Part of our training includes ,,teaching our horses to drink out of rivers, yip some horse only know how to drink out a water bucket.
And be able to eat on the go.
This is over time and don't misread ....it's NOT a 2kg meal of concentrate or half a litre of oil.

Unlike humans, horses are designed to run on a full stomach. Feeding your horse 2-3L of chaff or a biscuit of hay prior to exercise has two benefits :
1️⃣ The chaff will form a ball of feed in the stomach, which will help prevent acid from splashing up from the lower part of the stomach to cause gastric ulcers.
2️⃣ Blood is normally diverted away from the stomach during exercise, which reduces some of its normal protective mechanisms. Research has shown that feeding your horse before exercise actually reduces the amount of blood that is shunted away from the stomach and also increases the amount of blood delivered to the skeletal muscles and muscles of the chest. So not only are you helping to protect the stomach, you also might be improving your horse’s performance.

Lesson report back

Very productive lesson day.

The Frogster is having some downtime so Kate gave Agent a test drive with some trail patterns. He is an amazing pony ,but doesn't fancy being messed with.
Again Kates soft touch came through and he just got on with the job. Inspiring when horses and humans figure each other out with subtle gesture s. Good job both of you.
Debbie and Phenix,,from a high anxiety ride to today's pattern s. Not sure if any of you remember the head in the air looking at everything with busy feet.Well today this amazing combo lead out, followed, ,,and STOOD patiently waited his turn. Consistent calm direct training , big future for this combo, well done.
Cate and Steffi have been working on strength and fitness.
Steffi s busy feet and thinking a canter is a race ,got a property test today.
After good warmup in the roundpen and getting a nice trotting rythym we did 3 solo 10 min time trials ,on the parimeter, at a nice controlled trott. Heartrate down below 70 within a couple of mins.
What an amazing little athlete this pony is turning out to be. We throwing Cate in the deepend ,and she's surviving πŸ˜‰
That's all on the lesson front for now🀠

So last Sunday Debbie, Andrea,Keegan, Cate and myself rode through the sugarcane to one of my happy places,,,the Croc dam.
Mmmm some were on a mission to push each other offπŸ‡πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰
Nice mix of chilled stuff with some cantering in there.
Followed by a quick braai in the hot north wind under the tree.

Things falling into place.
Arena and parking taking shape.
Andrea and Keegan relocated arena rocks and stones.
Today's training outride was how 2 hours with you horses is supposed to be.
Cates first time,doing hills,bushpig style!
We have just got used to it,but I challenge the Rossett hunting hairnets to join us.πŸ’©
High anxiety horses like Phenix taking it in their stride, just shows the work Debbie has put in to get the mutual trust.

Each one of you are on a special journey with your ponies, cherish these moments

Thank you for another amazing memory

Something really special happened yesterday.
Andrea and Lilo have been focusing on getting lilo to not be fixated with cruising off to his mates.
After some cool drills they were present and making dust, jumping ,soft direction changes.
All done ,cooled down, core exercises done.
Time to go to his mates....nope ...he had joined up and wouldn't leave Andrea!
And she didn't have a carrot hidden in her pocket lol
