Happy Diwali from all of us at Cinderella Animal Rescue

To all our supporters and friends who celebrate, we wish you and your loved ones a joyous, peaceful, and love-filled Festival of Lights.

Diwali is a time to reflect on the triumph of light over darkness, of hope over despair, and of kindness over cruelty. As the Bhagavad Gita teaches us, “A person who is devoted to the welfare of all beings, who is friendly and compassionate, free from pride and selfishness, such a person is very dear to Me.” These words remind us to walk gently through the world, extending love and protection to all living beings, especially the voiceless ones in our care.

While the lights and festivities bring joy to many, they can be frightening and even dangerous for animals. Please keep these tips in mind to ensure a safe Diwali for our furry and feathered friends:

Avoid setting off fireworks near homes, shelters, or places where animals live or roam
Keep your pets indoors during fireworks and play soothing music to help mask the noise
Make sure your animals are microchipped and wearing ID tags in case they get scared and run
Clean up any firework debris that may be harmful if ingested by animals

Let this Diwali be filled not just with lights but with compassion, mindfulness, and kindness.

Thank you for being part of our rescue journey and for continuing to support our mission. Wishing you a beautiful and safe celebration.

With love and light,
Cinderella Animal Rescue

On Wednesday, I had to say goodbye to one of our sweet babies. What started as a mass that wouldn’t heal turned out to be leukemia. With multiple other masses appearing, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully.

I try to remind myself that this was an act of dignity, the same kind I would hope for myself if I were suffering. I never let any of my dogs pass away alone. They have me, always.

Some may not understand how deeply you can love a stray you’ve only known for a short time, but the truth is, I see myself as their mother. Each of them becomes a part of me, and losing them never gets easier.

To everyone who supports rescuers, thank you. We pour our hearts into this work, often balancing families, jobs, and everyday life while making these dogs the center of our world. Rescue isn’t just something we do; it’s who we are.

I’ll always wonder if I did the right thing, but I take comfort in knowing I did my best to spare him from pain.
Rest peacefully, my little Snoopy. Mummy tried her best. I hope I didn’t fail you. ❤️

And to Karen Bodamer, thank you for being there for us during this difficult time.

Lastly, a gentle reminder. Many people are quick to ask a thousand questions, but few take the time to check in on a dog or offer help when it’s truly needed. Please remember, we’re here for the dogs, not to entertain endless questions or defend what rescue really means to those who don’t understand it. Ridiculous comments and negativity won’t be tolerated. Rescue work is already heavy on the heart, so please, show kindness and empathy to those doing it.

Update 💛
A few years ago, we rescued a dog named Elise. Her owner had passed away, and she was left behind, forgotten and alone. With time, love, and patience, she healed and learned how to be a dog again.

Now she’s found her forever home, happy, healthy, and so deeply loved. I think she truly hit the jackpot.

This is what rescue means to me. It’s not always about the bigger picture, but about changing the world for one dog at a time.

Thank you to Penny and her incredible family for giving Elise the happily ever after she deserves ❤️

Happy Birthday to my Shiloh

In 2016, when we first brought you home, we were completely clueless. We didn’t know a thing about dogs, what you felt, what you thought, or how to truly understand you. But somehow, you taught us everything without saying a single word.

Through your love, your stubbornness, and that unforgettable attitude, you shaped us into better people. Because of you, we didn’t just learn how to care for you, you inspired us to rescue hundreds of others. You changed our lives in ways we never could’ve imagined.

You’re bossy, you can be moody, and sometimes a little mean, but your love opened our hearts to a world we never knew existed.

Because of you, Shiloh, Cinderella Animal Rescue was born. Because of your love and yes, that strong, sassy spirit, we understand dogs more deeply than we ever thought possible.

You may never realize the ripple you created in this world, my girl. Your heart, your courage, and even your attitude have made more of a difference than you’ll ever know.

I love you, my little girl , my Shiloh. You are, and will always be, my whole world. ♥️

🚨 HELP 🚨

Animal Guarduans, our rescue is in crisis. Our vet account has been put on hold at over R30,000, and we still have 8 dogs waiting to be neutered. Until we can settle this, we cannot move forward with their care.

One of our dogs, Snoopy, needs to go to the vet urgently. While his wound is healing and he’s putting on weight, there is some concerning swelling developing that needs immediate attention. We cannot risk waiting.

We don’t take in every case that comes our way because for us, it’s not about numbers, it’s about lives. The dogs we do take in, we prioritize fully. We don’t just patch things up; we aim to change their lives forever.

Right now, we desperately need your help.

Can you help us clear the vet bill and give these 8 dogs, especially Snoopy, the care they urgently need?

A huge thank you to Pick n Pay for once again spoiling our furry friends with yummy cat and dog food! 🐾💙

We were able to share the cat food with local cat rescues, and this time a wonderful lady received the donation as you can see, her babies were absolutely thrilled! 🐱🐱 Their happy faces say it all.

Our own little ones are always spoiled with delicious dry food from PnP, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the kindness and support. You help us keep tummies full and tails wagging every single day! 🐶🐾🐱

Thank you, Pick n Pay Kingsburgh for making such a difference in the lives of our rescue animals. 💙

Today, another soul found his way to us. The way he walked… like every step was a battle just to stay upright. His body tells a story I wish I didn’t have to imagine, a deep wound on his leg, skin crawling with mange and fleas, scars in all stages of healing. I’ll never know exactly what he’s been through, and maybe that’s for the best, because the truth would break us.

But tonight, for the first time in a long time, he has a full belly and a warm place to rest. His eyes tell me he wants to fight for his life but he needs us to fight with him.

We urgently need help to get him to the vet, and we have to build him a safe healing space. Right now, we don’t have fencing or materials to even start. Without it, we can’t keep him here where he is finally safe.
Please, if you can, help us give this boy his chance at happiness and freedom. Donations towards his vet care or materials for fencing will make all the difference.

Because after all the hurt, he deserves to know what love feels like. 💛

Please don’t scroll past, our dogs are counting on us, and we’re counting on you.

We’re in real trouble. Month end has hit us hard and our food supplies are running out. The freezers are empty, and our stock of dog food is critically low.

Our rescues eat 210kgs of food every single month just to survive:
160kgs of adult food
50kgs of puppy food
Rice and pet mince

Right now, we don’t even have enough to get through the next few days. 💔

Please, we are pleadingfor help, without food, our babies go hungry. You can:
Drop off at one of our drop-off points
If we’re in your area, we’ll try to collect
Or come by the rescue yourself and see who you’re feeding

Even one bag, one donation, one share of this post can make the difference between an empty bowl and a full tummy tonight.
