In case you didnt know, we are kinda coffee people ( ) but we won this beaut little bag of coffee from Sugarbird Tiny Farm, fair n square🤣
And how could we resist doing a photoshoot in the garden with the stunning packaging😍 The coffee is a delicious Guatemalan, roasted light.

A collection of some of the creepers and crawlers I have photographed in my garden over the last few months. Some friend, some foe, but all balances out if you let them be (mostly... alot of grasshoppers and caterpillars have become duck snacks too😂 all part of the balancing)
My favorite garden friend- the Drone Fly, find a pic of a mating pair in this collection🙈
My most interesting garden friend- the Red Velvet Mite (last pic)
And of course I never tire of watching the honey bees and I have been privileged enough to have visits from 2 types of solitary bees- a carpenter bee and a digger bee (digger bees are so quick, I have not successfully photographed one!😆)

Our duck story this season😄
Our very first clutch of Muscovy ducklings, hatched by our excellent mommy, Ethel, were beautiful and healthy, until the mongoose discovered that they were extremely easy pickings. We lost 4 ducklings in the space of a day. We were not going to repeat that experience, so this time when Ethel wanted to hatch eggs again, we built them and enclosure and the ducklings stayed in that space with their mother until they were big enough to free range.
You will see one particulare duckling that we have grown attached to, it injured its foot and so became a house duck for a while. We called it Pancake (we are still not sure if Pancake is a boy or girl😂)
Pancake definitely receives preferential treatment like special passes intk the enclosed garden😆
A group of these ducklings have already gone to their new home.
We love ducks. We have definitely become duck over chicken people😂

I love before and afters, reminds you of how much has happened and also that you're not a completely terrible gardener😂 swipe to see the before in October. First pic is December😄
Wanna see more of the garden? More to come shortly!
🐝
Note: we are growing a food garden in Gansbaai- we are pretty close to the coast and we have extremely sandy, hydrophobic soil as well as extreme wind. Hence we garden in raised beds and sheild the garden with shade cloth. Tyres are free! And they are a great start if you have very little budget.

Hi all! Hope you are all doing well and growing and learning in self sufficiency🌱 here are few pics we've taken lately.
We are making some changes, we have to move from the farm where we rent as changes are being made here. So we are needing to make a shift.
We are selling our dairy herd. So if you would like info on them, please get in touch.
Anyway, we must stay dynamic🌱

Market garden starts are growing nicely😍
These are seedlings of our absolute favorite lettuce- Melody. Its a loose leaf variety, crunchy, flavourful yet not bitter. The perfect lettuce in our opinion🥬🥰
Do you have a favorite lettuce variety?

So the story behind this little guy, lovingly dubbed Sir Poopalot- when he was still a small chick, he got his head stuck in the chicken mesh of their coop, almost decapitated himself! Anyway, we doused him in betadine and kept him seperate and he became our house chicken for a bit😄 he healed up well and is now quite big and a real character😆
There is bound to be tragedy when you have alot of animals, but sometimes there are cute happy endings😄🐣
