THE EXTRA MILE CONTINUED ...
Earlier this week, Jeffrey, the dog recovering at the SPCA after receiving veterinary treatment for dog bite wounds, was ready to go home!
Our staff transported him back to his very grateful owner❤️.
Thank you, again, to Animal-Kind International for the top-up funding that made the impossible, possible.
Jeffrey is now neutered and has no reason to chase after the girls on heat and get into trouble.
Also thank you to our staff for their amazing care of Jeffrey as well as to everyone who donates tinned food - making it so much easier to hide a tablet😉.

"Milly and Clifford are practically jumping for joy at the idea of finding the home of their dreams. They're both full of boundless energy, and would make wonderful companions. Don't let their excitement fool you though! They're also both very trainable.

While we'd love to see them finding a home together, applications for just one of them are welcome. Contact June on WhatsApp - 083 376 4175 - or Lee at the kennels on 046 622 3233 to arrange to meet Milly and Clifford at the Grahamstown SPCA. After-hours viewings can be arranged as well."

"It's hard to believe there's been no interest in Phoebe, Cally, Blaze and Titan yet. These little lovebugs have so many snuggles to share! While they are a lovely family, they don't need to be adopted together (though we're sure they also wouldn't object!)

The adoption fee for cats is R500, which covers their sterilisation costs, microchip, deworming and first vaccinations. Adopt 2 for R800. Contact June on WhatsApp - 0833764175 - or Lee at the kennels on
046 6223233 to arrange to meet these beautiful calicos and tabbies at the Grahamstown SPCA. After-hours viewings can be arranged as well."

THE EXTRA MILE
Jeffrey is known to the SPCA Grahamstown staff. His owner loves his dogs and has walked to the SPCA from Tantyi before (a very long way for those who aren't familiar with Makhanda) to seek help for his dogs.
Jeffrey and his owner arrived at the SPCA kennels early in the New Year. Jeffrey had been in an altercation with other dogs and had some nasty bite wounds on the back of his neck which weren't healing.
When our staff cleaned his wounds, it was very clear that Jeffrey needed veterinary assistance.
So off to the vet Jeffrey went and while under anaesthetic, Jeffrey was also neutered. Jeffrey's treatment, sterilization and meds were covered by the top-up funding received from Animal-Kind International as part of the Good D.O.G. fund.
Jeffrey returned to the SPCA kennels for 10 days so that he could receive his medication under careful supervision and have his wounds checked daily.
And then a lovely surprise for Jeffrey ..... his owner came to visit him with his other dog .... all the way, on foot from Tantyi. They were all so happy to see each other❤!
Unfortunately Jeffrey was not ready to be discharged yet, but his owner was thrilled to see him looking so much better.
Stay posted as we report on Jeffrey going home!

BAKABAKA IN TROUBLE AGAIN
Bakabaka from Vukani was sterilized on 18th December as part of Siyeza Vukani project funded by Animal-Kind International. Bakabaka also had a nasty neck wound treated and a drain inserted. He went home with antibiotics and special care instructions.
But alas, Bakabaka does not take medication in any form or disguise, and will make himself physically ill to get rid of any tablet. He also removed his drain🥴.
So, Bakabaka had to go back to the vet for repairs😬 and it was decided to place him in the SPCA kennels under strict supervision. Instead of tablets, Bakabaka received injections 💉 and TLC. And it worked🙌.
Bakabaka went home on Monday in good health and spirits - very happy to be home.
Thank you to our staff for their fantastic care of Bakabaka, Dr Clayton for the veterinary treatment and Animal-Kind International for the funding!

SPAYED🎉
Apla and Pablo from Vukani were both spayed as part of "Siyeza, Vukani!" sterilization campaign funded by Animal-Kind International. Frisky, the pitbull (no photo), was also spayed, but the ordeal was a bit much for her and she refused to co-operate for the photo session. None of these girls or their owners have to worry about unwanted litters anymore! Sterilization saves lives!

UPDATE: Homecheck pending for Mom and another kitten

Mom Cat
Mom Cat was surrendered with her kittens.
Her beautiful kittens have been booked for adoption, but Mom Cat will be needing her own home when the kittens leave in about 6 weeks’ time. She is a very friendly, pretty, longer haired cat and still a young cat herself, very affectionate and very grateful for a lap to sit on.
The adoption fee for cats is R500, which covers their sterilisation costs, microchip, deworming and first vaccinations. But if you wanted to adopt another one of our loving cats looking for homes, it would be R800 (for the 2). Contact June on WhatsApp - 083 376 4175 - or Lee at the kennels on 046 622 3233 to arrange to meet Mom at the Grahamstown SPCA. After-hours viewings can be arranged as well."

There are plenty of loving kittens and cats still looking for their forever homes at the SPCA. Please come and meet them! Our kennels are open from 9-4pm weekdays, 9-12pm Saturdays, 9-11am Sundays, and after-hours visits can be arranged. Visitors are always welcome and appreciated.

Lacey:
Spayed Female. Surrendered as her owners were leaving town and could not take her with. She is about 1 years old and is a gentle soul, a bit unsure of herself after losing her family. She is not comfortable on a leash, but with patience can be trained. Lacey needs to be adopted by someone who will invest time in her and shower her with love. She has so much potential.
Adoption fee is R450 as she is already sterilized.
Contact June on WhatsApp - 083 376 4175 - or Lee at the kennels on 046 622 3233 to arrange to meet Kelly at the Grahamstown SPCA. After-hours viewings can be arranged as well.

Kelly
Very shy, young girl of about 10 months old. Surrendered as her owners moved.
So much love to give, but a bit unsure of herself. She would require a patient owner who could build her confidence.
The adoption fee for dogs is R900, which covers their sterilisation costs, microchip, deworming and first vaccinations.
Contact June on WhatsApp - 083 376 4175 - or Lee at the kennels on 046 622 3233 to arrange to meet Kelly at the Grahamstown SPCA. After-hours viewings can be arranged as well.

TINNED DOG FOOD AND CAT WET FOOD SACHETS NEEDED🙏
Our stock of tinned dog food and sachets of cat wet food are very low😬. We have a number of community dogs in our kennels who are recovering from surgery and having their meds administered to ensure a full recovery before returning home. Plus the dogs and cats enjoy a treat with their dry food🐈🐕
Any brand welcome!
Food can be dropped off at SPCA Charity Shop or the kennels, and Checkers Sixty 60 knows where the kennels are too!! Thank you!

Gracie
Gracie was brought in as a stray with her pups.
She has been a wonderful little mom and has had to fend for herself most of her life, sometimes with the help of kind folk. She is very sweet and loves human attention. Quite territorial, so single dog household recommended. Would make an ideal companion for an older person. She does not like a leash, but likes to explore in the garden.
The adoption fee for dogs is R900, which covers their sterilisation costs, microchip, deworming and first vaccinations.
Contact June on WhatsApp - 083 376 4175 - or Lee at the kennels on 046 622 3233 to arrange to meet Gracie at the Grahamstown SPCA. After-hours viewings can be arranged as well.

CASE IN PROGRESS😡
This 6 month old puppy was accused of chasing pigs and biting dogs and was attacked with a stick (not by his owner). As a result of the injuries to his head, he has had to have his eye surgically removed. Inspector Dingana will be opening a cruelty case against the person who attacked the dog. Cruelty to animals needs to stop.

"We’ve posted about Phoebe, Cally and Titan, and last up (but certainly not least) in this gorgeous kitty family is Blaze! With a sweet but shy nature, Blaze is cautious around new people, but quickly warms up when cuddles are on offer. He’s just as curious as his brother, Titan, and we’re sure he’ll grow up just as handsome and loving in the right environment. Surrendered with his mother and siblings.

The adoption fee for cats is R500, which covers their sterilisation costs, microchip, deworming and first vaccinations. But if you wanted to adopt Blaze along with his mom, Phoebe, one of his siblings (Cally and Titan), or another of our loving cats looking for homes, it would be R800. "Gorgeous Titan is exceptionally friendly, very curious about the outside world, and full of purrs. Surrendered along with his mother, Phoebe, and siblings, Blaze and Cally, Titan loves playing and cuddling up with his family in the communal area, and would get along well with other cats. He’s already a handsome boy with his snowy chest and front-legs, but we know he’s going to grow into a gorgeous, friendly and happy tabby with the right loving home.

The adoption fee for cats is R500, which covers their sterilisation costs, microchip, deworming and first vaccinations. But if you wanted to adopt Titan along with his mom, Phoebe, one of her siblings (Cally and Blaze), or another of our loving cats looking for homes, it would be R800.
