EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED 😲
A call on the emergency phone yesterday... donkey struggling to pass plastic ... a bit of a sticky situation ... and a very unhappy donk🫏. Inspector Lee attended to the donkey and we are pleased to say that he is feeling much better😂.

DONKEY TREATED 🫏
The donkey with the bite wound on his rear in the Sunnyside area has been treated today. Happy New Year to this donk🎉😂. The SPCA Grahamstown called out Dr Annie Mears of Ithemba Wildlife Services to assist. The wound has been treated and there is a piece of cotton dressing that will fall off in time. The donkey is clearly marked SPCA in blue lettering. The donk was also treated by SPCA last week and proved to be a very difficult patient.
A huge thank you to Inspector Lee Matthews and Dr Annie Mears, as well as Todd Simon and Hitec Security personnel for assisting the donkey today.
Our gratitude to the Good DOG Fund from Animal-Kind International for assisting with the treatment costs. We could not have done it without them🙏.

As 2026 draws to a close, we would like to express our gratitude to our incredible staff, volunteers, donors, supporters and vet teams for their unwavering support in the fight against animal cruelty. A special 'thank you' to Animal-Kind International for their ongoing support of our outreach and sterilization work - it means the world to us and the animals whose lives have been changed.
Our team work tirelessly day and night responding to cruelty concerns, MVA's involving animals, attending to animals in distress and providing animal welfare education to the community. We have celebrated the success of sterilization campaigns, adoptions, successful court cases, and our hearts have been refuelled by the wag of a tail, a gentle purr and a nuzzle from a donk❤️.

Our dream for 2026 ... to double our capacity and increase our reach with 2 fully functional emergency vehicles, more sterilizations and health care for animals in need.

If you can assist us in any way to reach our dream for 2026, please email: [email protected].

It's time that Makana Municipality follows other municipalities and bans the bang🧨. Until it does, please take precautions for your pets in case your neighbourhood welcomes the New Year with a wasteful bang💥😡. The poster from MyCityBloemfontein provides good advice for pet owners.
Our Inspectorate team will be on duty to attend to any displaced or injured animals, phone (don't message) 0648208496. For lawless, irresponsible human behaviour, please contact law enforcement🚨🚔. Stay safe everyone and look after your animals🙏.

SAY "NO" TO FIREWORKS
If you have money to spend on fireworks, please rather donate pet food to an animal shelter like the SPCA, or buy some food for a family in need.
Let's make the arrival of 2026 a compassionate and peaceful one and say NO to fireworks!
