Spay and Neuter!!
Be part of the solution

What really gets my blood boiling 🔥 - and today’s rant is dedicated to the feral-cat haters.
I am so sick of the narrative that feral cats are the sole destroyers of our fauna, flora, and wildlife. It is a cop-out, unfair, and completely ignores reality 🙄.

There are many predators in our ecosystem:
🐒 Vervet monkeys raid nests and eat chicks alive
🦝 Genets hunt
🐍 Snakes hunt
🦅 Birds of prey hunt
- yet nobody demonizes them. But feral cats, who never chose to be born on the streets, get blamed for this alone 😾.

Let’s get one thing straight:
This is a human-created problem. 👈

Humans domesticated cats thousands of years ago. Humans from all walks of life now abandoned them, leaving their cats to fend for themselves (which most starve or die). Humans allow their unsterilized cats to free roam (resulting in breeding with any other cat or feral). Government fail to enforce sterilization. And now rescuers are left to put out fires 🔥 with TNR, mostly using their own resources 💸, their own volunteered time ⏳, and their own sanity - while “keyboard warriors” or feral cat haters - type from the comfort of their couches 💻.

And here’s the fact no one wants to hear:
A tiny bird 🐦, mouse 🐁, rat 🐀, or gecko 🦎 is NOT enough to sustain a feral cat.
A starving animal will do what it must - dig in your garbage 🚮, steal your dog’s kibble 🐕‍🦺, or hang around unsanitary places where humans leave food behind.
So don’t pretend this is all ferals doing. It’s survival that WE caused.

Meanwhile, domestic free-roaming cats - owned by irresponsible humans 🙃 - contribute massively to hunting wildlife. But sure, blame the ferals. Easy target, right? 🎯
GET A GODDAMN CATIO - or cat proof your property.

If feral colonies were all controlled and TNR’d, they would have far less impact on our delicate ecosystem. But instead of advocating for sterilization ✂️ and supporting those doing the work and rescue, some prefer to villainize the very animals humans failed in the first place!!!😡

So before you accuse rescuers of being “part of the problem,” ask yourself:

What have YOU done? 🤨
✅Did you skip that KFC takeaway 🍗 to donate to a rescue doing TNR?
✅Did you ever help trap, sterilise, feed, treat, or home a stray/feral cat?
✅Did you ever lift a finger for anything other than typing your uneducated opinion? 💬

Because if your contribution to conservation is a Facebook comment… please. Sit down. and Shut the 🚫 up

Stray dogs kill cats 🐕.
Vervet monkeys can kill - if not maim - pets 🐒⚔️.
Birds of prey take many pets 🦅🐱.
Rats spread disease because humans leave rubbish everywhere 🐀🗑️.
Humans are the worst and have a record of killing the most in their path🤬

But somehow feral cats are the only ones in the spotlight? 🤦‍♀️

No.
The real spotlight should be on solutions:

🐾 TNR to stop breeding
🐾 Feeding programmes to stabilize colonies
🐾 Sterilizing owned
🐾 Stop free roaming cats
🐾 Supporting rescues instead of attacking them

Feral cats didn’t choose this life.
We as vile humans created it.
So the least we can do is be part of the solution - not the cruelty, not the hate, and definitely not the demonization ❤️‍🩹🐱.

A Health Update on Our Iman

Today, Iman visited Dr. Megan at Vet On Main , where she underwent a series of extensive tests to determine the cause of her illness. Although the results showed no presence of coccidia, worms, or giardia, our beautiful girl's intestines are not in the best condition.

The current diagnosis is leaning towards Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or a gut lymphoma, with the possibility of a parasite called Trictamonis that Dr. Megan has sent off for confirmation. While the treatment for IBD and lymphoma is similar, our primary focus is on ensuring Iman's quality of life.

As her caregiver, it's heartbreaking to receive this news, but I'm committed to doing what's best for her. Iman holds a special place in my heart, and our bond is truly one-of-a-kind. Despite being feral, she has shown me a love and affection that I've never experienced before.

As we navigate this challenging time, I kindly ask that you keep Iman in your thoughts and send her healing vibes. We'll be taking things day by day, monitoring her progress, and adjusting her care accordingly.

Your love and support mean the world to us, and we're grateful for your kindness during this difficult time.

This is something both myself and Feeding Our Ferals KZN NPC 2022/873200/08 have had long discussions about

Responsible rescue - ethics - transparency

If you can help what's app me on 0672043391

To our loyal donors thank you, without you we would surely not be able to continue ❤️

❌🐾 Why We Say “No More”

(Yes… it’s a looooong read 😅)

We are a very small rescue that works primarily with TNR for local ferals.
I live by the rule:
✨ WHAT YOU FEED, YOU MUST FIX. ✨

That means every colony I manage and every TNR I do comes directly out of my pocket - my time, my fuel, my traps, my vet bills.

My own rescued and sanctuary cats live indoor/outdoor with safe catios, enrichment, and love. None of them free-roam - their safety comes first. Caring for them, maintaining my catios & living space, buying food, litter, bedding, cleaning products, doing tons of washing and drying and paying utilities… it all takes money and time. I currently have 37 affectionately known “freeloaders” at home 😹❤️

My rescue partner, Kate from Mc Kitty Cat Rescue, cares for the bottle babies/ kittens. She has 49 “freeloaders” in her home also from kittens to adults. Between my feral colonies and both our freeloaders, we care for 117+ cats.

That is far beyond what any normal household or foster network manages - and yet, the requests never stop.

Every day we get:
🟥 “We’re moving and we cant take them with.” “We’re emigrating and we cant take them with.”
🟥“They’re getting old.” “They’re getting expensive.”
🟥 "They're not my cats they are strays that had kittens in my yard"
🟥 “I’m a pensioner / unemployed.”
🟥“The company doesn’t want ferals, come remove them.”

There are simply so many excuses I cannot mention them all!

💔 But they are not our cats either, why do you expect rescue organisations to take them over?

We can help with TNR locally - if YOU cover the cost of vaccines, sterilisation, and ongoing feeding.

So, we ask you: ❓ Where do you expect these cats to go?
❌We don’t have land.
❌We don’t have endless space.
❌We don’t have endless money.
❌We already stretch ourselves beyond what is reasonable.
People assume rescue organisations have endless donations and deep pockets.

Reality?
😞 We beg.
😞 We plead.
😞 We’re lucky if we get R500 when asking for food.

We asked for help recently to extend the catios for space -
📣 The response was silence. 🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗
It is just two of us, doing what we can with what we have.

To those who support us, thank you. You know our hearts, our integrity, and our commitment.

🐾If you’ve never bottle-fed a fading every hour just to see it die…
🐾Taken in a bottlebaby and been lied too that they were tested for the nasty diseases for it only to die and kill all the kittens in your care…
🐾Racked up huge vet bills to try find the reason for your cats illness only to discover it’s a mystery…
🐾Taken your cat to the vet for it to die and be given a maybe diagnosis…
🐾Spent hours trying to trap a kitten and never to find it again…
🐾Ever sat for hours trapping, or trapped in unsafe areas…
🐾Had to PTS a feral cat and her newborns that look healthy but tested positive for a disease that can kill the whole colony…
🐾Fed ferals daily during bad weather and its pouring…
🐾Ever picked up a dying cat been hit by a car and stood at the vet praying you can afford the bill…
🐾Ever been dump with ferals or cats with a promise to care for and provide for them only to be left fitting the bill

I can go on forever - So please don’t judge us for saying no more.

We don’t ask for new tyres, or petrol to put in our cars, we don’t ask for assistance on utility bills or security and other things. We cover those costs ourselves. We only plead for assistance related to our cats – food, litter, sponsor of steri&vacs, assistance sometimes with an unexpected vet bill, but whatever relieves the load and helps the cats
Our intakes are closed because we refuse to fail the cats who already depend on us. And we wont be guilt tripped into how many we have in comparison with other rescues - we know our limits, we try not to financially take on more than we can handle, and we have an obligation to the ones in our care to do by them the very best that we can, THAT IS RESPONSBLE RESCUE, THAT IS ETHICAL!

That is our obligation, our responsibility, and our promise. 🐾🩵

You are welcome to visit, meet our cats, and see exactly where every cent goes. We a transparent with what we do - If you want to sponsor a vaccination, sterilisation, or even a box of sachets - we are grateful.
But we will never apologize for putting our cats first.
Because at the end of the day…
🐱💙Our loyalty is to them. Always.

Every single day people like us wake up already in a state of anxiety
You may ask why but the answer is simple
We have taken on cats with unknown medical history and we try to offer them a chance at a better life
The very weak ones that we are convinced are circling the drain pull through which leaves us in sheer and utter awe
Those are the ones who sustain us to keep going
You then get a litter of kittens who are strong, have eaten well almost like a champ and exceeded all expectations and they suddenly crash and die - shock sets in as this healthy baby is no more

We then have to pick up the pieces of our shattered hearts and start all over again, day after day as there are others who depend on us to be there to feed them,to sterilise them and sometimes your body just runs on flat
If it weren't for these voiceless little bubs I think a lot of us would turn away but we SIMPLY CANT
It's in our nature, soul,DNA its a compelling draw to want to help and save

Unfortunately we cannot save them all and it's then countless nights of wondering what could've been done different, maybe if I'd done this or maybe if I hadn't done this the outcome would've been different

As those of us who sleep, breath, dream rescue it's a continual battle that almost send you into a fright or flight mode

When we take on the sick ones we know we are setting ourselves up for heartache but yet we do it every single time just hoping that maybe this one will make it
Rescue is hard, emotionally,mentally,physically
It is a passion to care for those who cannot look after themselves

So in short if you hand a kitten over to a rescue try and contribute towards a vet bill, supply a decent bag of food wet or dry,a bag of litter or even some old comfy blankets
These little things make a huge difference to us

In memory of all those babies who were taken too soon

You are important
You are loved
You are seen

Especially by those of us who keep getting up everyday to do the same thing over and over
