Remembering Axel: A Heartfelt Tribute

Today, I'm overcome with emotions as I mark the one-year anniversary of saying goodbye to my beloved Axel. His courageous battle against chronic kidney disease was nothing short of inspiring, and though he may be gone, his memory lives on in my heart.

Axel was more than just a cat – he was my everything. My constant companion, my confidant, my little shadow. His presence in my life was a gift, and his absence has left a gaping hole that can never be filled.

I miss everything about him: his soft purrs, his cuddles, his little meows, and his adorable quirks. I miss our lazy mornings, our playtime, and our quiet evenings together. I miss the way he'd follow me around the house, always by my side. I miss the way he'd curl up in my lap, purring contentedly as I stroked his soft fur.

The pain of losing Axel still feels like an open wound, and some days it's hard to breathe. But even in my grief, I'm grateful for the time we had together. I'm grateful for the memories we created, the laughter we shared, and the love we exchanged.

Axel, my dear boy, you may be gone, but you'll never be forgotten. You'll always be in my heart, and I'll carry your memory with me every day. I love you more than words can say, and I'll miss you until we meet again.

One of the best feelings ever is seeing one of your babies blossom

Our little Faith was adopted along with another kitten Gracie earlier in the year by Janet Annandale and her hubby Brent

Faith didn't have the best start to life and we unfortunately lost her sibling Fletcher

Faith and Gracie have blossomed with Janet and Brent and I get regular updates but this photo just stole my heart

Thank you again for adopting these beautiful girls we are so happy

❤️❤️❤️

Spay and Neuter!!
Be part of the solution

What really gets my blood boiling 🔥 - and today’s rant is dedicated to the feral-cat haters.
I am so sick of the narrative that feral cats are the sole destroyers of our fauna, flora, and wildlife. It is a cop-out, unfair, and completely ignores reality 🙄.

There are many predators in our ecosystem:
🐒 Vervet monkeys raid nests and eat chicks alive
🦝 Genets hunt
🐍 Snakes hunt
🦅 Birds of prey hunt
- yet nobody demonizes them. But feral cats, who never chose to be born on the streets, get blamed for this alone 😾.

Let’s get one thing straight:
This is a human-created problem. 👈

Humans domesticated cats thousands of years ago. Humans from all walks of life now abandoned them, leaving their cats to fend for themselves (which most starve or die). Humans allow their unsterilized cats to free roam (resulting in breeding with any other cat or feral). Government fail to enforce sterilization. And now rescuers are left to put out fires 🔥 with TNR, mostly using their own resources 💸, their own volunteered time ⏳, and their own sanity - while “keyboard warriors” or feral cat haters - type from the comfort of their couches 💻.

And here’s the fact no one wants to hear:
A tiny bird 🐦, mouse 🐁, rat 🐀, or gecko 🦎 is NOT enough to sustain a feral cat.
A starving animal will do what it must - dig in your garbage 🚮, steal your dog’s kibble 🐕‍🦺, or hang around unsanitary places where humans leave food behind.
So don’t pretend this is all ferals doing. It’s survival that WE caused.

Meanwhile, domestic free-roaming cats - owned by irresponsible humans 🙃 - contribute massively to hunting wildlife. But sure, blame the ferals. Easy target, right? 🎯
GET A GODDAMN CATIO - or cat proof your property.

If feral colonies were all controlled and TNR’d, they would have far less impact on our delicate ecosystem. But instead of advocating for sterilization ✂️ and supporting those doing the work and rescue, some prefer to villainize the very animals humans failed in the first place!!!😡

So before you accuse rescuers of being “part of the problem,” ask yourself:

What have YOU done? 🤨
✅Did you skip that KFC takeaway 🍗 to donate to a rescue doing TNR?
✅Did you ever help trap, sterilise, feed, treat, or home a stray/feral cat?
✅Did you ever lift a finger for anything other than typing your uneducated opinion? 💬

Because if your contribution to conservation is a Facebook comment… please. Sit down. and Shut the 🚫 up

Stray dogs kill cats 🐕.
Vervet monkeys can kill - if not maim - pets 🐒⚔️.
Birds of prey take many pets 🦅🐱.
Rats spread disease because humans leave rubbish everywhere 🐀🗑️.
Humans are the worst and have a record of killing the most in their path🤬

But somehow feral cats are the only ones in the spotlight? 🤦‍♀️

No.
The real spotlight should be on solutions:

🐾 TNR to stop breeding
🐾 Feeding programmes to stabilize colonies
🐾 Sterilizing owned
🐾 Stop free roaming cats
🐾 Supporting rescues instead of attacking them

Feral cats didn’t choose this life.
We as vile humans created it.
So the least we can do is be part of the solution - not the cruelty, not the hate, and definitely not the demonization ❤️‍🩹🐱.

A Health Update on Our Iman

Today, Iman visited Dr. Megan at Vet On Main , where she underwent a series of extensive tests to determine the cause of her illness. Although the results showed no presence of coccidia, worms, or giardia, our beautiful girl's intestines are not in the best condition.

The current diagnosis is leaning towards Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or a gut lymphoma, with the possibility of a parasite called Trictamonis that Dr. Megan has sent off for confirmation. While the treatment for IBD and lymphoma is similar, our primary focus is on ensuring Iman's quality of life.

As her caregiver, it's heartbreaking to receive this news, but I'm committed to doing what's best for her. Iman holds a special place in my heart, and our bond is truly one-of-a-kind. Despite being feral, she has shown me a love and affection that I've never experienced before.

As we navigate this challenging time, I kindly ask that you keep Iman in your thoughts and send her healing vibes. We'll be taking things day by day, monitoring her progress, and adjusting her care accordingly.

Your love and support mean the world to us, and we're grateful for your kindness during this difficult time.
