💔 Not a single enquiry for this old lady Lacy 💔

Sweet Lacy has been patiently waiting… but sadly, not a single response has come from our previous posts. 💔

She is a gentle, medium-sized older girl with the softest heart. Calm, easy to care for, and friendly with other dogs – all she longs for is a quiet corner to rest her head and a family to finally call her own.

Life has not been kind to Lacy. She survived the harsh streets of Acornhoek and even lost one eye along the way. But despite it all, she still trusts, still loves, and still hopes. 🐾

Please, if you have space in your heart and home, consider giving this brave girl the safe haven she so deserves. Share her story – you or your friend may just be the reason Lacy finally finds her forever family. 💕

This puppy was the only pup of the litter so with no food competition from siblings this happy pup was very chubby.

Unfortunately the belly of the pup was full of mango worms as the bedding material where the pup sleeps is moist, making the perfect breeding ground for these nasty mango flies to lay its eggs.

Ethiel explained the owner what to do to ensure the pup has a dry place to sleep and keep mango worms at bay. Though mango worms won’t kill a pup, they are definitely painful.

🥳 Happy adoption news for Teddy 🥳

A huge thank you goes out to the Kruger Family for opening their heart and homes to special dog Teddy. We are certain Teddy will have the best life with you and a four legged friend to join him.

We are so happy for this precious boy and all of this couldn’t have been possible without the dedication of his foster family Berrange. Her patience, love and care and with invaluable help of her fourlegged family members made it possible for Teddy to undergo an incredible transformation ❤️

This poor little girl Snappy was taken into camp today. She has absolutely terrible mange and is covered in ticks.

He has received some wonderful donated mange and tick treatment from Worldwide Veterinary Service - WVS and we hope she will feel a lot better soon ❤️‍🩹

On our vaccination run this week in The Oaks and Finale our Egnetia Vee Eddy's fell head over heels in love with this absolutely adorable pup and we can’t blame her. Puppy got his shots, a dewormer and spot!

Bonnie is the sweetest, softest girl who just loves kids. This gentle pup was literally dumped at HALO camp a few weeks ago and our wonderful fosters have given her all the TLC she needed. She has had her second round of vaccinations, is perfectly healthy and would make a perfect addition to a family with (young) kids. Bonnie is very soft hearted, well behaved and we expect her to stay a relatively small dog when she grows up. To adopt contact HALO on 072 634 0032

Thank you Hoedspruit Herald for putting our story on the cover, it is a very important and serious matter affecting our communities. We can only effectively eliminate rabies when everyone takes their responsibility and vaccinate their pets

Thanks to SAVA Community Veterinary Clinics and Battersea we are able to make a real change, vaccinating 1,200 dogs a month against rabies.

Is anyone traveling from the UK to Hoedspruit/ Joburg in the next few weeks? We can get a much needed donation of spot ons for our doggies and with summer temperatures on the rise the ticks and fleas are multiplying causing life threatening problems for dogs.

Every unvaccinated dog is a potential risk, not just to other dogs but to families, neighbours, wildlife and livestock. Vaccination is not optional, it is mandatory.

Together we can stop rabies but we need every owner to take responsibility and vaccinate their dog.

Rabies confirmed in Finale after a missed vaccination, prompting renewed calls for dog owners in Maruleng to protect their pets.

Meet Teddy

Teddy, previously known as Rocky, had made the most incredible transformation. Three months ago he came in scared of everything and terribly skinny. He wasn't coping well in camp and fortunately opened her heart and home to give him the best start for a new life. Now, three months later of much TLC and kindness, here is Teddy!

Teddy’s Personality
Sweet-natured and affectionate — he loves to be near his people.
Playful and curious, but also happy to curl up for quiet time.
Loves the company of other dogs — his foster sisters (two Golden Retrievers) have taught him all about being a dog and enjoying life.
Still a little shy at first with new people, but warms up quickly with patience and kindness.

Teddy’s Progress
Learns routines quickly - he thrives on consistency.
Walks nicely on the lead and enjoys exploring but he does get scared easily so lots of patience is required.
House-trained and well-mannered in the home.
He has been exposed to different dogs, people and experiences.
Has gained confidence through positive experiences and gentle encouragement.

What Teddy Needs
A calm, loving home where he’ll be given time to adjust and continue building trust.
A family or person who understands that patience and routine will help him shine.
Ideally a home with another friendly dog - he really blossoms with canine companionship.

Teddy may have had a tough start, but he has proven himself to be resilient, loving, and ready for a fresh chapter. Whoever welcomes Teddy will gain not just a dog, but a loyal companion with the biggest heart.

Teddy is around 2 years old and medium size.

💔 A confirmed rabies case…💔

This is why our work is so important and never done!

While we celebrated finishing our rabies vaccination campaign in Finale in July, we picked up this suspect rabies case from that exact area just last week. The owner is a hunter and always on the go with his dogs and lifestock so missed our campaign. A real shame as these dogs pose the highest risk of contracting and spreading rabies. And last Friday we received the results that the dog in fact had rabies so it’s all hands on deck. This week we will work together with the state vets and assist them ensuring all people and animals will be safe from rabies.

Rabies is 99.9% fatal but 100% preventable. Most all rabies cases are spread by dogs so let’s work together and make sure your dog is up to date with the (mandatory) rabies vaccination so you, your family, neighbours, dog and other animals are safe from this horrible virus.
HALO will continue to vaccinate a target amount of 1,200 dogs a month against rabies in the areas around Hoedspruit.

On 27 September HALO organises a rabies awareness morning at our camp for residents of The Oaks and Finale. It will be an educational morning for adults and children. 📍 Road Oaks to Finale
