Rain rain and much, much more rain! ☔️ 🌿Bless the rains down in Africa but not for our outreach as most people decided to stay dry at home. It was one of our quietest outreaches in history with only 34 dogs seen… Thanks to Humane Society International - Africa we were able to vaccinate all dogs against rabies, parvo and distemper. We had one older dog that was in quite poor condition treated for an ear infection and tickbite fever and 3 dogs were signed up for a sterilisation🥳A big thank you goes out to the volunteers of EcoLife Expeditions for joining today as well our loyal and new HALO volunteers for making it our shortest outreach in history.
As part of our rabies vaccination campaign with Global Alliance for Rabies Control HALO conducted a special rabies run in Acornhoek. This huge area has a lot of dogs and we will need a LOT of drives to completely cover this area but we made a great start today with 32 dogs. All dogs also received treatment for external and internal parasites. Quite a few dogs were also suffering from mange and received treatment for that too. The last dog of the day had terrible nasal TVT and we will also get him treatment. A very young kitten that was quite emaciated and dehydrated was confiscated and brought to our friends from Greater Kruger Alley Cat Initiative. All in all a great day where we were able to make the lives of the dogs and cat a little to a lot better! #togetherwecanmakeadifference #HelpUsHelpThem #outreachprogram #welovedogs
Little Rambo is doing a LOT better. The meds are kicking in, he is eating like a champ and the swelling in his feet has gone. No more vomiting, he has turned into a happy playful puppy. A few more days of monitoring and he can go back home ❤️
This is just so rewarding! In October the owner brought Fly to the HALO outreach, not knowing what was wrong with the dog. A local belief is that mange is caused by eating fish so she thought that was what happened. We explained what the issue was (tickbite fever resulting in diminished immunity and mange) and made a treatment plan. In December Fly was well enough to get his sterilisation and look at him today, 3 months : what a happy and healthy strong dog he has become! #togetherwecanmakeadifference #outreachprogram #helpushelpthem #mange
HALOs first outreach of 2025 was a fact! Our volunteers gave health checks to 166 dogs. All dogs received a wonderful gift: a beautiful collar! Thanks to Humane Society International - Africa and Global Alliance for Rabies Control we were able to vaccinate all dogs against rabies, parvo and distemper. We have signed up 8 dogs for sterilisation, many are urgent steris as the females were already pregnant or on heat. One sickly puppy was admitted and will receive veterinary care. We were happy to report that most dogs were in really good condition and we see significant improvement compared to a year before. A big thanks to our wonderful volunteers making this a successful day 🍀#togetherwecanmakeadifference #HelpUsHelpThem #outreachprogram #EndRabiesNow #animalkindness
A big thank you to everyone who helped pay for poor Jackie’s vet bill! Jackie has made a full recovery and was happy to go back home 🥳
Styx is the best behaved puppy ever! He loves bath time (he has mange and requires baths) and he absolutely loves it. His hair is now slowly growing back and we can’t wait to see what a handsome little man he will become. Styx is looking for a forever home so please consider adopting this precious boy. He is about 3 months old and was found wandering the streets of Acornhoek. A kind person took him in but had no means to take care of him and called HALO. Styx, named after the Mythical river of death for escaping death himself, is the gentlest most playful pup and will make a great pet to any home ❤️
Bless got stung badly by a scorpion on 24 December and was in severe pain so we rushed him to Provet Companion Animal Hospital to receive expert care. Unfortunately due to a national shortage there was antivenom available so the team did whatever they could to give him the best chance to fight his battle and stay comfortable. Today he was finally released from hospital with pain medication and he sure was happy to be home and see his sibling again #HelpUsHelpThem #outreachprogram #ScorpionSting
🐕 Little Styx came in with terrible mange and he is doing very well. With lots of meds, baths, coconut oil treatments and TLC he is now doing much better and showing the truly beautiful puppy on the outside as well.🐕 Just a few more weeks to let the hair grow back and become an absolute stunner we hopethe perfect home will line up for him soon! #puppylove #outreachprogram #helpushelpthem #mange
With only Styx left in camp we didn’t want to leave him alone over Christmas so he is settling in for a well deserved Christmas holiday. He got some nice toys to keep himself busy and a beautiful bed donated by Miranda Endeveld and @Richard Houtkoop. Seems like he is already enjoying himself ❤️
Brooks came to our outreach with an eye injury that unfortunately could not be saved anymore. She had her eyeball removed and with a sterilisation to go with it, she rested a few days in our camp, before going home just in time before Christmas. Brooks came home with goodies: a new collar and lead and a bag of Hill’s Pet Nutrition dog food.
Our last door to door vaccination campaign at the Oaks with 25 dogs vaccinated and many dogs made happy with new collars and leads thanks to Remco Vegting and Jeanette Smit! A big thank you goes out to our volunteers who joined today making this day a success: @Jeanette Smit, @Dirk Sietses, @ekedevos and @Ronnie Tshotlo #togetherwecanmakeadifference #outreachprogram #helpushelpthem #endrabiesnow #welovedogs
