Wishing all our loyal clients a very happy new year!

Dr Lee and Di were very busy in Matilda (our mobile steri van) over 2024, we worked with , , , , , and and sterilised 365 dogs and 421 cats! Thank you to these amazing organisations and all the sponsors and donors for making this work possible, changing lives 1 steri at a time.

To all our private clients, thank you for your on going support, and we will see you at the Dulcet Centre clinic in 2025.

Being the last steri clinic of the year, Dr Lee decided it was worth a little celebration, so she brought cake and cooldrink to .

I did a quick calculation, we sterilised 185 dogs and 11 cats in Mpophomeni this year. Thank you to everyone involved in making a difference.

Again, we were racing storm warnings on Saturday. We did our monthly steri clinic for Funda Nenja and did a very respectable 21 dogs and 1 cat. We finished just as the lightning and thunder crashed nearby and the first few drops started.

We had a few curious children wanting to watch the surgeries, and one boy in particular was very interested. He asked a lot of questions and quietly observed everything from the prepping of the dogs, to the surgery. You never know the impact of that one experience on someone, let's hope he goes on to be a vet like he dreams.

We love doing steri clinic's for , they are always an adventure. This weekend we had a windy day on Saturday and a rainy day on Sunday, thank goodness for the marquee we work in.

12 dogs were sterilised and vaccinated for rabies on Saturday, and 20 cats on Sunday. Luckily the storm warnings didn't materilise and we packed up and got home safely.

Thank you everyone who shared this post and all those who offered a home. 21 cats were rehomed!

We were on a farm in Cato Ridge on Tuesday doing a steri campaign for AACL. A very caring lady had started feeding feral cats and although they had sterilised most of them 3 years ago, there were 14 new ones that needed doing. She has some living in the sheds and then there are a lot that she has tamed that are living in the house. We vaccinated all the house cats for rabies and sterilised the new ones.

The farm has been sold and she needs to home as many cats as possible, so if you know of anyone looking for shed/stable cats, or even loving house cats please get hold of Di 0827706890.

Dr Lee is back from her holiday, and straight back into steri clinic's! We were in Underberg doing a 3 day steri campaign for Underberg Giant's Cup Animal Welfare.

What a succesful weekend! 38 dogs (26 girls and 12 boys) and 12 cats (7 girls and 5 boys) were sterilised.

Many thanks to Virginia and John for putting us up for the weekend in their beautiful home and feeding us at the end of each day. Thanks also to Sonya and all the other volunteers who helped make it such a success.

One of the dogs on Sunday was a cryptorchid, meaning one testicle had not dropped. This is always tricky and can be very time-consuming fishing for the internal testicle. Dr Lou Evans who was assisting with vaccinations came to offer moral support, and between them they managed to locate the culprit! Great team effort.

Dr Lee is taking a very well deserved break and will not be available for the month of October. She is going to spend time with her daughter in Thailand! Please use one of the other vets if your pet is needing veterinary attention.

Apologies for any inconvenience, but I'm sure you all agree she really needs a holiday.

Thank you to for a well organised steri clinic at Summerhill, Shakaskraal area, where we did 26 dogs and one cat. We sterilised and vaccinated for rabies, and each dog was sent home with a bag of food. One of the little girls who had clearly had a few litters already, was early pregnant with 12 pups!

Each dog got an Ivermax injection as they had ticks and fleas. One dog was so badly infested in fleas, she was anemic. She was also sprayed with Frontline to kill the fleas on her. She recovered well from her surgery and the owners were given advise on parasite control.

We also unfortunately had to euthanize a dog who had very bad TVT that had been left untreated for so long. RIP little girl, no more suffering.

Thank you to all the volunteers for your help, as well as Dr Julia who popped in to see how a mobile steri clinic works and ended up doing 3 surgeries. Also to Gogo who opened up her home and driveway for us to use for the 2 days, what an asset to her community she is.

We had to postpone our last 2 steri clinics with for various reasons, so it was great to be back in Phoenix this weekend.

We did cats both days, and sterilised 63, 44 females and 19 males. Many of the females were already pregnant, so many lives saved from living on the streets fending for themselves. We finished after dark on Saturday which was a bit challenging in a tent with only Dr Lee's theatre light.

We noticed quite a few of the feral cats who were flea infested, with mouth ulcers. This is caused by over grooming and can cause discomfort. Another reason to make sure you keep up a good anti parasite regime.

We also had a feral cat with an abcess on his tummy which Dr Lee lanced and flushed .

This was our third Drakensberg feral cat steri clinic organised by . We were last at Champagne Sports resort 2 years ago and they were our base again last weekend. Cats were caught at the surrounding resorts as well. Quite a few were trapped that already had ears clipped which was nice to see as this showed they were thriving after being sterilised. A total of 19 cats were trapped, sterilised and released back home and not a moment too soon as 4 of the females were pregnant.

Many thanks to Champagne Sports resort for putting us up and feeding us for the weekend. Well done to all the resorts for taking responsibility of their feral cats and getting them sterilised.

What a lovely part of the world to spend the weekend working.
