How your life can change in a day ….

OUPIE 🤎 has been a resident of Botriver for many years . He often pops in at our Botriver charity shop for a drink of water and a little snack. We have a blanket behind the desk where he sometimes come to rest before toddling back home.

Today his owner called to ask us to fetch him to put to sleep. When we got to the house he was lying on his cushion on the stoep and he stood up to greet us with a tail wag.

When we asked why she thought he had to be euthanised her answer was that he’s old and annoying and they don’t want him on the stoep anymore!!

You can only imagine the inner strength it takes to keep calm to answers like that.

If you are dealing with that type of mentality sometimes it is better just to remove the dog & not even try to reason with them as God only knows what they will do to get rid of it.

When she came out with her R200 contribution towards his euthanasia and knee’d him away we told her to keep it and rather buy a pot plant to make her stoep look pretty and loaded him up.

So now we have an elderly brown dog who’s life is depending on some kind person to offer him a home for his last few years.

Our allocated vet cages are full and the only place we have is the spare cage at the back of the clinic at the moment. He is so unsure of this new environment and it’s breaking our hearts to see his confusion.

Our vet said he has a strong heart, unblocked his a**l glands and dipped him to kill off the fleas and other than that he’s a healthy dog.

The adoption fee of R1100 will include his sterilisation, vaccination, microchip, deworming and flea treatment to date of adoption.

PAWS R US (Fourways, JHB) MEET SCARLETT!

This beautiful girl has been in our care since she was 6 months old. We simply don't understand how this is possible, when she has so many gifts to offer. Aside from her striking looks, she has a big, goofy heart. Any human would be abundantly blessed to have her in the family.

SCARLETT is sociable and shares a communal space with other furry friends at our shelter site. She needs time to be properly introduced and integrated with new buddies, and once settled, enjoys the interaction and play. She has never been exposed to cats before.

All our dogs are sterilised vaccinated, and microchipped.

Scarlett is all set and waiting for blessings, magic and miracles to find her.

Alfred is our oldest boy at DARG and has been with us for many years. He's also the dearest of dogs and absolutely adores humans almost as much as his toys. Alfred shouldn't have to spend another winter in the shelter so we are begging you to help find him a retirement home by sharing his photo. He needs to be an only pet but will make the most loving and doting boy if someone opens their heart and home to him.

Zena was taken in 10yrs ago, as she was born at the gas station on the N1 near Lenasia! Her mother has passed away, her dad is still alive as he was still so young and was picked up with mommy!! All shes ever known was shelter life, and surely deserves better than dying here?
Her adoption fee is only the cost of her microchip and a completed adoption form as well as Homecheck will be done!

We URGENTLY need a home for Bobby.

BOBBY 🩷 got the boot because he's old, deaf and mangy - and he has a suspicious wound on his bum.

The Dr reckons he's at least 10 years old. He is looking a bit worse for wear but he is mobile and his heart is fine. He is friendly and good with other dogs. Cats unknown. He has alot to learn as he has never been in a house before so we need someone who is patient and understanding of his background. He has a chain mark around his neck and sleeps curled up tightly on the concrete as if that's all he has ever known. House training is a challenge because he is deaf. He sleeps alot and just wants reassurance.

Can anyone offer him a warm spot for his golden years? He's probably never had a cosy winter or regular meals and it would be so nice to show him the good life even if it is just for a year.

He cannot travel out of province.
