Mel says "happy trails make for waggy tails" and gives us her top tips for dog walking (using our Incredi-Walk range of course!)

1. Get your good boy used to his collar : You can’t just strap him up and get ready to roll, you must get your dog used to some of the items that will become regular features of your walkies time. If you have a new puppy, let him wear his collar around the house until he seems comfortable.

2. Let her leash the way : It’s natural for a curious creature to pull the leash, but resist the urge to pull back, yank or jerk the leash, and never drag your dog along by it. If she does pull, simply stand still and refuse to move until she comes back to you. She will soon learn how to keep a steady pace right by your side.

3. Harness the power of the harness : A harness is super comfy for dogs during walks because they’re generally easier going than a collar. On long walks there is less pulling on your dog’s throat and neck and they also help prevent the leash getting tangle in your dog’s legs. The biggest benefit is the shift in pressure from the neck to a much larger part of your dog’s body so back pain is alleviated.

Who is ready for another delicious recipe fit for the best dawg in your life?

Banana bread is undoubtedly one of the most versatile comfort foods. This childhood classic is unbelievably easy to make as the batter is pretty forgiving even if you make a few mistakes. To top it all off bananas also contain a lot of Potassium and vitamin B6, two nutrients that are lacking in many diets...

🍌 Bake it today -->

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 45 - 50 minutes
Makes: 1 loaf

Ingredients

• 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
• 2 very ripe bananas
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• ½ tsp ginger
• 1 tsp baking powder
• ½ cup plain Greek yoghurt
• ½ cup water
• 3 tbsp peanut butter

Method
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and line a 23X13 cm bread pan with baking paper.
Mash 2 bananas and add in the egg followed by the yoghurt and the water.
Mix in the dry ingredients and beat until smooth.
Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin.
Warm the peanut butter slightly in the microwave (about 15 seconds should do) until you have a runny consistency.
Drizzle the peanut butter across the top of your loaf.
Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
Once done, allow your loaf to cool in the tin before removing it.
Cut into squares – a 50g piece is a suitable size for a medium dog.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or in the freezer for up to 6 weeks.

Dawgs have often wondered when it was that humans decided it’s a good idea to make them wear necklaces.

We did a little digging (not the kind of digging you do to bury your bones) and found out that the earliest depictions of dog collars date all the way back to 8000 years ago. We also found out that the basic design of the collar has not really changed all that much since.

Although classic in its design, the Incredi-Collar does have a couple of features which weren’t available to dogs in ancient times. For one the coated webbing is not only super strong and soft on the fur, it is also water-proof, perfect for splashing in puddles so they can traipse the resulting mud all over the house later on.

The metal buckle also makes things a lot easier when you need to put the collar on a dawg who has no plans of sitting still and probably started to get excited the moment you took it out.

The subtly embossed strap and engraved buckle will leave all onlookers knowing that this dawg has got style.

For the dawg version of this meal, we have left out the onions and garlic, which we know dogs cannot safely have and included the addition of chicken giblets.

We’ve also substituted the traditional spaghetti for courgetti to avoid sending your dawg’s fart factory into overdrive. 💨 💨

Preparation Time: 25 mins
Cooking Time: 1h 30mins
Makes: 6 servings for 2 medium dogs

Ingredients

For the Mince:
• 1tbsp Coconut Oil
• 600g Beef Mince
• 200g Chicken Gizzards, Chopped
• 1 Celery Stick, Chopped
• 2 Carrots, Chopped
• ½ cup Tomato Puree
• 2 Sprigs Rosemary, Finely Chopped
• 1 tbsp Parsley, Finely Chopped
• 2 Sprigs Thyme, Finely Chopped
• 1 Bay Leaf
• 500ml Bone Broth or Water
• 300 g Courgette Spaghetti (Courgetti)

Method
• Heat the coconut oil in a large pan over a high heat and brown the mince. Once the mince is brown, you can add the chicken gizzards.
• Brown the chicken gizzards next, once this is done, turn your heat down to medium and add more oil to the pan if necessary, sweat the carrots and celery until the celery has softened.
• Now it’s time to add the tomato puree.
• Slowly add the Bone Broth or Water to the pan. It is important to not use a stock cube as it contains too much salt for pooches.
• The herbs and peas are added next. Once the liquid starts to boil, the heat can be turned down to low and the pan left to simmer uncovered for 40 mins.
• Once your mince is ready, you can cook your courgetti according to the package instructions.
• The cooked courgetti can either be stirred into the bolognese sauce or be served with the sauce on top.
• Serve thoroughly cooled to the dawgs who were surely in the kitchen helping.
• Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze portions for up to one month.

After realising that a love of animals was the defining aspect of her personality, Melissa-Rae Lourens took a leap of faith and left her career as a Portfolio Manager in a Property Management firm and founded Kreature Comforts in 2021.

A devoted mom to two fur kids, Melissa has a passion for canine cuisine and also likes to whip up a meal every now and then for the hoomans in her life. This English classic is loved by all and is a great meal prep dish. This version sticks closely to the original with the main difference being the addition of sweet potatoes. While sweet potatoes are not lower than regular potatoes in calories, they do have a significantly higher amount of vitamin A and other antioxidants. This dish is also packed with vitamin B12 which keeps our immune system healthy and also assists and supporting our nervous system.

For the dawg version of this meal, we have omitted the ingredients which we know dogs cannot safely have and included the addition of chicken giblets.
