So brutal and such a sad day for the animal kingdom.
Thank you to Randburg SPCA as well as Douglasdale SAPS for helping this angel.
MAN ARRESTED FOR BREAKING PUPPY'S BACK.
On the 25th of March 2020, A man was taken into custody by the Douglasdale SAPS, after he kicked his family dog so hard, he broke it’s spine.
The individual, brought the 4 month old Scottish Terrier into a local veterinary hospital, indicating to the attending veterinarian that he had kicked the puppy because it urinated on his carpet.
The attending veterinarian immediately took x-rays and was horrified to find what she described as a fatal fracture. The veterinarian then urgently contacted Inspector S. Bodasing, head of the Randburg SPCA inspectorate, informing him of what had transpired.
Approximately 5 minutes later the Inspector arrived on scene, to find the animal in a great deal of pain even after the administration of pain medication. The Inspector consulted with the attending veterinarian whom indicated that the owners were asked to wait in the consultation room, unaware of the SPCA’s involvement.
The Inspector had phoned ahead to the commissioned officers of the Douglasdale SAPS, advising them that he can reasonably foresee the possibility of an arrest. The officers were incredibly professional and eager to assist and immediately charged to the scene. The members of the SAPS arrived less than 5 minutes after the Inspector’s phone call.
The Inspector and the SAPS entered the consultation room for the first time, and the owners were unpleasantly surprised. The Inspector informed them that a veterinarian is legally obliged to report any case of suspected animal cruelty to the authorities (SPCA) and as such he was of the opinion that there was indeed enough evidence to proceed with a prosecution, the suspected offender was then arrested and taken into custody by the SAPS.
“I find this act to be one of purposeless cruelty, performed with culpable intention. There are no justifiable grounds to explain or excuse this conduct. It is common knowledge that a puppy needs to be housetrained, and therefore infers that it will urinate in undesired places until it learns. To kick a puppy so brutally to break its spine, is a crime for which I will ensure punishment is sought.” Said Inspector Shiven Bodasing of the Randburg SPCA.
The puppy had such a severe break that the attending veterinarian advised the only option be euthanasia, as the animal would never recover from such an injury and is suffering unimaginably.
The Randburg SPCA wishes to commend our colleagues at the Douglasdale SAPS for a sterling performance, they did indeed protect and serve.
