A testimonial for the Emmarentia Raw product vs another raw dog food brand, so interesting!

"Forrest is my young German Shepherd, and like many GSDs he can be quite sensitive. I unexpectedly had to switch to another raw dog food brand temporarily and noticed a difference almost immediately. His poops were less solid, smellier, and more yellow in colour, and worst of all, he's itching far more than is normal, especially chewing at his paws which was new for him. The other brand has a good reputation and is well made, but it contains chicken in all their recipes, which is likely the culprit.

Since switching back to Emmarentia Raw, things have improved—his poops are consistently solid, and his itching has greatly decreased. Emmarentia Raw clearly works well for him, and we’ll be sticking with it!"

November is Epilepsy Awareness month.

🐕 According to the AKC Canine Health Foundation, approximately 0.75% of the canine population have epilepsy, and up to 2% of dogs will experience a seizure.

While seizures can be caused by direct influences like tumors., certain medications, or even low blood sugar, many dogs struggle with what is known as Idiopathic Epilepsy, meaning there is no obvious medical reason for the seizures. Because of this, treating IE can be difficult, and involve a lot of trial and error.

So what can you do to help your epileptic dog? Cut out the things that may be triggering additional seizures - triggers can be things like products you use around the house, foods, medications & even stress.

But, correct nutrition also plays an important part of managing idiopathic epilepsy in dogs. This is because many ingredients in dog food can be linked back to seizures, especially any foods that contribute to inflammation.

One of the biggest contributors to seizures may be Glutamate, which is an important amino acid for the brain, but high levels of it have been associated with many diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, & yes, seizures.

Unfortunately, grains & legumes which form the base of many dog foods are very high in glutamate. Preservatives, taste enhancers, chemical antioxidants & colorants can also play a big role in increasing the frequency of seizures.

The other big win for a raw diet in helping seizures in the slow release of energy that comes from a raw diet as opposed to a carb-heavy one. This means less chances for huge fluctuations in blood sugar that can trigger a seizure.

If your dog’s currently any anti-seizure medications, don’t stop them without talking to your vet about how to do it safely.
