This cutie is Jasper. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Jasper was promptly brought into The Parks Animal Care when he showed symptoms, and he is doing so well now as a result.🐾❤️ Acute Pancreatitis is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition where the pancreas becomes inflamed. Causes include 1.⁠ ⁠Dietary indiscretion- Eating fatty or high-calorie foods. 2.⁠ ⁠Obesity 3.⁠ ⁠Genetics: Certain breeds, such as Miniature Schnauzers, are more prone to pancreatitis. 4.⁠ ⁠Medications: Certain medications, like corticosteroids, can increase the risk. Symptoms include: 1.⁠ ⁠Vomiting 2.⁠ ⁠Abdominal pain 3.⁠ ⁠Loss of appetite 4.⁠ ⁠Diarrhea. 5.⁠ ⁠Lethargy Treatment often involves hospitalisation, fluid therapy, IV medication, pain management and nutritional support. The prognosis for dogs with pancreatitis varies depending on the severity of the condition, promptness of treatment, and individual response. Mild cases may have a good prognosis, while severe cases can be life-threatening. Juniper is a gorgeous 5 month old Ragdoll kitten that came into the Parks Animal care with a head tilt. 🐱 After a clinical exam, an ear exam and a scope, Juniper was diagnosed with Otitis interna or an inner ear infection. The first step of the treatment plan involved an anaesthetic and a thorough ear flush. This is Jet🐾 Jet has come in for a routine scale and polish of his teeth. It’s a simple procedure. We put them under a general anaesthetic and use an ultrasonic scaler to clean off any plaque and tartar that’s calcified on their teeth. It forms a hard layer you can’t get off with brushing, which allows bacteria to proliferate and actually infect the gums and the roots of the teeth. This leads to further dental disease and can result in them losing teeth as they get older, too, through abscesses and infections there. So, it is an important part of your routine care of your animals. Jet is an older boy—9 years old—but age isn’t a factor in deciding not to have an anaesthetic procedure. Today, Jet has already gone through all the checks, including running blood work profiles to make sure he is healthy and that we’re happy with his anaesthetic. In a couple of hours, Jet’s going to have some pearly whites and his teeth will be a lot better for at least another year 🦷 We do advise annual checkups; our dental checkups are completely free. Bamba came into The Parks Animal Care for intermittent lameness or limping that has been going on for the last few months. 🐶 Painkillers, anti-inflammatories and rest have all been tried without much success because the moment anti-inflammatories stop, the lameness returns. On Consult it’s clear that this has been a problem for quite a while because there is a clear muscle difference in the two back legs. Essentially, what we want to do today is sedated x-rays. The reason we sedate them for these X-rays is that it minimises stress; there is no pain for the dogs while they are under sedation, and we can manipulate them into positions for the X-rays. It is actually vitally important that we have them perfectly still when we do the x-rays in the correct positions. If not, we are essentially wasting clients' money by not having our x-rays perfect, so we are forced to practising at a very high standard of practice and provide the best level of care we can, and our honest feeling is that the best way to do that we need our sedated perfect x-ray. Boujee came into The Parks Animal Care for what we thought would be a routine procedure to check on her anal glands.🐾 We found out that there was a cyst developing on the inside of her rectum, which we thought was her anal gland. We drained the cyst and sent the fluid off for testing. She is otherwise a perfectly happy little girl. We also found, entirely by chance, that Boujee was only born with one functional kidney, and the other is essentially redundant and one-tenth of the size. We checked her blood work to make sure all was good; all was fantastic and normal with her. At this stage, she is showing no abnormalities whatsoever ❤️ We will be putting her on kidney food regardless to help prevent any issues in the future. Dogs can survive, with 33 to 25% of their kidney only being functional. At this stage, it is nothing to be concerned about, and it is just an unlucky abnormality we see from time to time in dogs.
