Longhair gene in different breeds. I get asked often, " They say he/she is Longhair but his/her coat is not that long? ".
In the cat world you get Longhair and semi-longhair breeds. A good example of a Longhair breed is the Persian, the Persian has both Longhair and double coat, hence the fur is long and looks very fluffy. Some Longhair breeds don't have the double coat gene and their fur is long and sleeker, like the Original Longhair. Most of your semi-longhair breeds have a single coat like the Siberian cat. This relates back to your dwarf breeds as well. The Minuet comes in Longhair and shorthair, the Longhair should have the same coat as a Persian cat. Munchkin's and kinkalow's Longhairs are semi-longhair cats with mostly single coat fur.
