Joburg Zoo, appropriately in its 120th birthday year, is taking center stage this week by hosting the annual international conference of members of the Pan-African Association of Zoos and Aquaria (PAAZA). This prestigious event offers a great platform to showcase the Joburg Zoo and the amazing work done.
The conference from 3 to 5 September – hosted by the Joburg Zoo for the third time – is taking place in the Ditsong National Military Museum, within walking distance from AngloGold Ashanti Conference Centre. Sixty delegates from all over Africa, including Egypt Uganda, and South Africa (Pretoria, KZN, Cape Town, and Gauteng), have gathered to discuss topics under the theme “Resilience – ability to withstand adversity and bounce back”

The Joburg Zoo is one of the most popular local and tourist attractions situated in the leafy northern suburb of Johannesburg. The Zoo covers 54 hectares of land and was founded in 1904, when land was donated to the public for recreational use by the firm of the late Hermann Ekstein.
The Joburg Zoo houses over 320 species of animals, totalling about 2 000 animals. The Joburg Zoo is open to the public 364 days a year, including Christmas, New Years and Easter holidays. With international accreditation, the Zoo maintains a high standard of animal welfare, nutrition and ethical conduct to ensure the physical and psychological well-being of all its animals.

The City's Community Development: Library and Information Services, in collaboration with partners JCPZ and Tangible Africa, present the 2024 Rangers Coding Games Finals.
Since 2018, coding has been a thriving part of the City of Johannesburg Libraries' programming, and the Rangers Coding Game has become a flagship activity for primary school learners. Designed by the Nelson Mandela University Computer Science Department, this puzzles-based coding game teaches basic coding skills, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving—all through play.

🐍 Snakes Don’t Have Eyelids! – Unlike most animals, snakes don’t have movable eyelids. Instead, they have a transparent scale called a spectacle or brille that covers and protects their eyes, giving them that signature unblinking stare.
🐍 Shedding Skin: Out with the Old, In with the New! – Snakes shed their skin several times a year in a process called ecdysis. This not only allows them to grow but also helps remove parasites. They usually shed their skin in one piece, including the spectacle that covers their eyes.

Madolo (11 years), Gia (12 years), Michelle (5years) & Buhle (6years) and one month old Dani 🦒 Giraffes can create sounds, even though they are mostly silent. Males have a harsh coughing sound while females can whistle to summon their young. Florida Park Revamped Florida Lake Park now has some exciting new features. The park has been updated with new play equipment that has rubberized surfaces to ensure the safety of children.
