End-of-year safety recap! ⚠️

is a deadly disease for humans and animals, but it is 100% preventable. Follow these simple steps to stay safe during the festive season:

1️⃣ Stay informed about rabies
Recognise that rabies is a serious, and often fatal, virus that affects both animals and humans.

2️⃣ Observe seal behaviour from a distance
Avoid close contact with seals, particularly Cape fur seals, even if they appear calm. If you see seals behaving erratically, contact local authorities to report the sighting. Do not approach the animal yourself.

3️⃣ Never touch or feed seals or stray dogs
Refrain from touching, feeding or attempting to help any seals or stray dogs, especially if they appear sick or injured.

4️⃣ Supervise children and pets closely
Ensure that children understand they should avoid approaching seals and stray dogs.

5️⃣ Know what to do if bitten or scratched by a suspected rabid animal
Wash the wound immediately with soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention promptly and inform healthcare providers that the injury may involve exposure to . Early intervention is crucial.

6️⃣ Stay cautious during outdoor festivities
Enjoy coastal activities and wildlife viewing responsibly, to ensure a safe festive season for everyone.

- Jozi south feral cat carers
- Gideon's Animal Outreach
- Linmeyer Community Animal Rescue Association (Registration Number: 2019/325693/08)
- Cause 4 Paws NPC
- And several dedicated individuals who operate as one-person teams

Throughout the year, these groups share their inspiring stories of the remarkable work they do to help animals in need. As the year draws to a close, we encourage our community to join us in supporting these organizations and contributing to their ongoing efforts.

Here are some ways you can make a difference:

- Donate items such as old kennels, collars, leashes, beds, toys, and food (both canned and dry) for cats and dogs.
- Provide monetary donations to cover veterinary bills and food expenses. You can make these donations directly to the groups' veterinary accounts or their welfare accounts. Details can be found on their respective pages.

By participating in these initiatives, you can experience the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a positive impact on the lives of animals in need.
