🐰 Why is breeding bunnies harmful? 🐰
At Amy’s Bunny Barn, we firmly oppose the breeding of bunnies—full stop. We don’t believe in “ethical” breeders, nor do we support backyard breeding.
Why? Because rescues are overflowing with bunnies in need of homes, and breeders are a big reason why.
Many people who breed bunnies, whether intentionally or accidentally, end up with more than they can handle. When bunnies are sold unfixed, babies are also inevitable. Some find homes—but many don’t. Those unwanted bunnies? They’re often dumped outside, where survival is unlikely (some ending eventually ending up at rescues), or surrendered to rescues if they’re lucky.
Even when breeders do place bunnies in homes, they rarely provide education or follow-up. Many new guardians don’t realize the lifetime commitment of bunny care. When they give up, those bunnies land in rescues—or worse.
Breeding prioritizes “cute” traits over health, leading to medical issues adopters aren’t prepared for. Guess who steps in? Rescues.
🐾 We believe in:
✔️ Fixing all bunnies before adoption
✔️ Supporting reputable rescues
✔️ Educating on proper bunny care
✔️ Thoroughly screening adoption applicants
✔️ Recognizing bunnies as lifelong family members
🐾 We do not support:
❌ Breeding for profit
❌ Selling rabbits without education & commitment
❌ Contributing to the overpopulation crisis
Breeding is unnecessary when so many amazing bunnies are already waiting for homes. Adopt, don’t shop. Give a bunny the second chance they deserve. 💕
This isn’t about shaming past choices—it’s about building a more informed, compassionate future for bunnies. Let’s do better, together.
