Dogs To Heal - Dog Training Johannesburg

Dogs To Heal - Dog Training Johannesburg Here is where you can be assisted with a biting, chewing, digging puppy, a dog who jumps up against guests or one who pulls on the leash.
(1)

If you have recently acquired a puppy, adopted an older dog or have had dogs for a long time but you have difficulty understanding each other, you have come to the right place! With Dogs to Heal, obedience exercises such as coming when called can be sorted out in relatively short time, and marked improvements can be seen in dogs who show aggression towards people or other dogs. Those dogs who are

afraid of fireworks and thunderstorms or who appear to be shy, can be helped to feel more confident. Dogs who are aging or who dislike grooming and being touched can be comforted and calmed. Some of these situations can be dealt with in classes, others in one on one sessions either at your house or at our premises in Highlands North. With Dogs to Heal all of those issues are dealt with in a respectful manner, and we never advise pain or fear as tools to deal with problematic dog behaviour. It is always about respect and understanding! Tersia has completed a number of courses in this field. She prides herself of the fact that she continues to update her knowledge of dog training methods and behaviour. Tel No: 082 828 0505

While consulting the other day, I found myself explaining that the client's dog might battle with anxiety. Excessive barking and chewing will bring relief in such a case.

And then it hit me: those are the problematic behaviours my new rescue Gandalf display. He might be feeling anxious!!

We started to address the emotional state, and voilá...there is already a small difference. The work will be necessary in the long term, though.

Contact us if you need to work with your dog's barking or chewing.

Dogs have feelings just like we do. If they have feelings about a certain thing or situation, ignoring their limitations destroys your relationship by breaking down your trust account. This can lead to other behavioral issues.

Its best to respect their limitations by learning how to help them cope and if this means you don’t go certain places with you pup or you can’t bring her to the dog park or any number of things, then please don’t force the issue because it’s what you want or it’s convenient for you. Trust is all you’ve got. Don’t jeopardize that.

WHAT THE F?

Recognising stress responses in dogs.

Fight or flight are well known reactions to fear or stress, but these other “F” words are also important to understand and be aware of as they may not always be so obvious.

Freeze, Fawn, Fidget or Fool around are also responses to stress or fear and are also commonly seen in people.

Some dogs may have a genetic predisposition to one type of response while some react based on previous experience - what has worked for them before or what hasn’t. Some dogs have different reactions depending on the specific context.

Recognising and taking note of situations or circumstances where these responses are seen is important in understanding how our dogs are feeling.

When we recognise a fear or a stress response, we are able to intervene and advocate for our dogs.

YES PLEASE!!

When your client, who left your classes to 'try out something else,' (not so verbalised at the time but read: breed specific club where prongs are used) invites you back.

Is it just my timeline or are the most absurd Rottweiler videos everywhere?
'Rottie rumble?'
'Don't wake them when they're sleeping (and proceeds to do same?)
And tomorrow some child does this and who is in the newspaper?
We don't deserve dogs.

When you take your dogs to the park, please let them out of the car a bit calmer (try a lead or 2.) Nobody wants your dog in their face.
NOBODY!!

People who let dog walkers take their dogs in groups to a park: do you know how much influence 1 person has over 12 dogs?
Or even 4?

I listen much better in puppy class from here, thank you

Just spoken to a first time dog owner. Said she: it is no use to drop my dog off at a school and they train him.

My response: what I don't get is that a first time dog person gets that, but not long timers.

And there you have your morning meditation.

Isn't it sweet how some rescue dogs, who have never seen one, know exactly what to do with a bed?💛💛💛

So some knowledgeable(??) bloke says there is no place for science in dog training. I would love to know where else science is not welcome 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

When your client, with whom you worked for months - crate training, duration thereof, desensitizing to noise, being carried, being driven, being calm - lets you know they landed safely in the UK. Gosh, the respect for this person, and her dogs!! 💜💜💜
