Ranger Stables Welcome to Rangers Stables Yard! 🐴
We offer riding lessons, pony parties and outrides in Delta Park, Johannesburg. Come ride with us! 🏞️

Passionate about horses and our community, we provide a fun, safe environment for all ages. What started out as a small collection of ponies, has grown into a family of equine and human (and a few feline) members. The Ranger Base is a community-based Equestrian Centre situated at REEA, the Rand Epileptic Employment Agency. The Rangers work with several community and municipal organisations, such a

s City Parks, JMPD, Joburg Water, Rand Water, HIV/Aids NGOs, schools and local Residents’ Associations. Established twenty years ago, with just two horses, today the Ranger Base owns 24 horses and ponies. They serve the community through daily patrols along the Braamfontein Spruit, monitoring ecological, social and security conditions. The Rangers’ equestrian activities include instruction, outrides, pony parties, pony rides, disabled riding and providing assistance at events as such market days. Although it is a small community of riders, we are a family that is dedicated to helping touch peoples lives and show them just how wonderful and beneficial interacting with these animals can be. The team is busy with last-minute prep, and we’re so excited to welcome you all this morning! From setting up the Swap Shop to brewing fresh coffee with John Honey, everything is coming together for a fantastic morning at the yard.

👕 Swap Shop: Great second-hand riding gear at bargain prices—don’t forget to bring cash!
☕ Coffee Station: Fuel up with a cup from our local barista while you browse and chat.
🐎 Meet & Greet: Say hello to our ponies, horses, and team, and learn more about what’s in store for 2024!

🌟 As we close off 2024, we’re reflecting on an incredible year of growth, fun, and unforgettable moments—and what better way to end it than with Pony Camp? 🐴

This past week, our yard was buzzing with excitement as our young riders showed off all they’ve learned this year. From perfecting their riding techniques to enjoying fun and games, swimming, movies and boerie rolls on the braai, it was a week filled with joy, laughter, and community spirit.

Pony Camp is about more than just riding—it’s about celebrating achievements, building friendships, and creating memories that last a lifetime. We’re so proud of every rider’s progress and grateful to all the families and staff who made this camp so special.

🌟 Show Day Success! 🌟

What an incredible (and long!) day at the show today! 🐴✨ Our riders showcased so much progress, bravery, and support for one another—it’s moments like these that make us so proud of our Rangers Stables Yard family. 💙

🌟 Highlights of the day:
• Molly & Danny made their debut with a lovely Poles on the Ground and Walk Trot test—Molly’s preparation really showed!
• Claire & Ruby focused on dressage, continuing to shine in their novice tests.
• Elli & Kavi had a smooth 50s jumping round. Always putting Kavi’s well-being first, Elli decided not to jump the 60s after a minor collision.
• Scarlett & Dax sped through some clear rounds and wrapped up with a stylish Walk Trot test.
• Elle & Asti hit a great rhythm in their jumping rounds, showing fantastic teamwork.
• Kelsey & Asti tackled their first 70s round with progress and determination, finishing with a tidy prelim dressage test.

It was a day full of learning, first-time experiences, and so much camaraderie. Well done to everyone—riders, ponies, and our incredible support crew! 🐎💫

What an incredible day we had at our End of Year Show yesterday! 🐴✨ From the beautifully turned-out horses and ponies to the brave, kind, and talented riders, it was a day to remember.

Today, with heavy hearts, we say goodbye to our beloved Patti. At 22 years old, Patti was more than just a horse—she was a teacher, a friend and a cherished member of our Rangers Stables family.

Over the years, she taught countless children how to ride, instilling confidence and joy in all who had the privilege of learning from her gentle spirit.

Patti's kind nature, patience and unwavering loyalty made her a true gem! Our thoughts and hearts go out to Carina, who baited her and loved her dearly—Patti’s bond with you was something truly special.

🌈 Remembering Goofy 🐴💔

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our beloved Goofy crossed the rainbow bridge late last night. An icon of Rangers Stables Yard, Goofy touched countless lives over the years, bringing joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A particular favourite of the children, Goofy left an imprint on our hearts that will never fade.

Goofy has galloped off to the big paddock in the sky, but his legacy will live on in the stories we share, the lessons we learned, and the love he inspired.

Thank you, Goofy, for the countless memories. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. 💙🐴

The 9th of August is SA Women’s Day to commemorate the 1956 march of approximately 20,000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to petition against the country's pass laws. However we choose to spend this women's day whether with relaxation or celebration, its significance will never be forgotten! 🐴👏

Jade, one of our Saturday therapy riders, was over the moon having her first ride on her new best friend (our special Dinky Donut) this morning! 🥳👏 Wishing them lovely lessons together in the future! 🐴

Our Story

What started out as a small collection of ponies, has grown into a family of equine and human (and feline) members. Ranger Stables is a community-based Equestrian Centre situated at REEA, the Rand Epileptic Employment Agency in Craighall Park. The Rangers work with several community and municipal organisations, such as City Parks, JMPD, Joburg Water, Rand Water, HIV/Aids NGOs, schools and local Residents’ Associations. Established several years ago, with just two horses, today Rangers proudly houses 23 horses and ponies, most of whom are rescues from dire circumstances that we have managed to rehabilitate and teach how to trust again. Some have taken years to recover, and with rescuing the road is often sad and painful for both horse and human, but each time we are able to give them a happy home, unconditional love and show them there is goodness in the world.

They serve the community through daily patrols along the Braamfontein Spruit, monitoring ecological, social and security conditions. The Rangers’ equestrian activities include instruction, outrides, competitions, pony parties, pony rides, disabled riding and providing assistance at events as such market days and school fairs. Although it is a small community of riders, we are a family that is dedicated to helping touch peoples lives and show them just how wonderful and beneficial interacting with these animals can be, while bettering the lives of each incredible animal that crosses our path.
