Here is something interesting - Zebra skin rugs are one of the most desired interior pinnacles you can have in your house. But, to know if you are paying a good price for quality is something you might need to learn.

There is a grading system on the skin which determines the quality of a zebra skin. Zebra skins are graded according to their overall condition. The fewer blemishes it has, the higher the grade.

The highest grade zebra skin is mentioned as a 'trophy grade' skin or an A grade skin. Next to trophy - or A grade skin, there is also B, and C grades. This has a win-win situation to it. The advantage is that if you purchase a C grade skin, it would still be a great investment because of the signs of life that stays.

What would the gap be between this A grade skin and a C grade zebra skin? Well, a C grade zebra skin would have a couple of imperfections like scars and blemishes, which doesn't mean you shouldn't buy one (it was a wild animal after all). Where an A grade zebra skin has little to none blemishes or scaring. This skin is the best of the best and would be virtually flawless. The A grade skin would most often be used on furniture rather than a C grade zebra skin.

Do you have a zebra skin rug or furniture, and what would you grade it as?

This is our tanning section, mirroring one of our services on the KZN: Taxidermy website. I want to introduce you to the modern poise of an age old tradition that is taxidermy.

Taxidermy isn't just another job. You’re given a job and you do it, but, not us, Taxidermy entails way more. This is visual art where special detail puts a smile on our faces.

Even in the tanning process we make sure to look for any blemishes or scars during the process. It really is rewarding when the process is finished and the top and bottom of the tanned skin feels sturdy, heavy, and looks posh.

Putting in the extra effort, is totally worth it. Another reason I take pride in being a taxidermist - is when we’ve completed a tanning project, my co-artists feels just as proud, especially delivering quality results.

If you have tanned skin that you would like to show us, tell me in the comments or send me a picture, or send us an email on kzntaxidermy.com

Now here is a big animal for you. This is the white rhinoceros, the largest surviving rhino species. This shoulder mount is completely made from fiberglass, but its not what you think. Every detail was composed by taxidermist's skilled hands.

Something which cannot help but be noticeable is the stunning display of colours. But also notice the accuracy in shape from head to below the neck. Each mucle, each wrinkle, each hair, where it should be.

This magnificent creature is most accurately mounted and is definitely a satisfying moment captured in time.

With the giraffe being the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant on earth, how could a mount of the giraffe fit inside your home?

Not everything has to be by the book. Working passionately on the finishing touches, the team eventually took a step back and smiled. The taxidermists made a creative decision to have this giraffe bull look back.

Because of this, the giraffe's neck appear to have a spiral bend, which is why the taxidermists decided to call this type of mount the "Spiral-shoulder Mount".

This original idea made it possible for you to fit a trophy of this size indoors. (The mount is also a thousand times more aesthetically pleasing).
