Did you know that the tiny vertical groove between a dog's nose and upper lip serves an important purpose? It's called the vegetal groove (or philtrum), and it’s not just for show! Every time a dog licks its lips, a little bit of saliva gathers in that groove. Thanks to a process called capillarisation, this moisture travels up to the nose, helping to keep it damp. But why is that important? A moist nose is much better at capturing and retaining scents from the air, which is what makes a dog’s sense of smell so incredibly powerful!
