An urgent tip-off recently saved a group of giraffes 🦒 from a 12-hour flight ✈️ to Kuwait that would’ve, quite literally, been a “pain in the neck.”

Our Special Projects and Wildlife Protection Units jumped into action after a concerned member of the public alerted us to a strange situation at OR Tambo International Airport: Six giraffes packed into two crates with no room to stand upright. The animals would have been forced to keep their necks bent for the entire 12-hour flight!😮

Our Inspectors explained to the shipper the severe welfare implications of inadequate crating. Thankfully, the shipment was withdrawn.🙌🏽

At 10pm that night, the giraffes were safely transported to a nearby facility under the watchful eye 👀 of our team.

We’ve since followed up and are pleased to report that the giraffes are safe 🙏🏽. The crates are being amended to the correct sizes, and we will inspect them to ensure full compliance before any shipment is authorised.🫡
