☠️TOXIC PLANTS FOR PETS☠️
This third week of March is Poison Prevention Week.
To raise awareness we would like to alert you to three toxic plants to avoid in your gardens and homes if you have pets. We see the devastating effects from exposure to these poisonous plants at IVH from time to time. Owners are often not aware of the detrimental consequences and it can end tragically for their pets.
☠️Cycad - ingestion of any part of the plant, but especially its seeds will cause vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and acute (often irreversible) liver damage, with signs of liver failure much later. It can also cause neurological signs like drowsiness, seizures, coma. Despite being a toxic plant, cycad leaves and seeds are palatable so dogs often ingest it if they have access to it.
☠️Syringa tree - the ripe berries are very toxic to children and dogs. If they ingest enough of the berries it causes vomiting, salivation, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, followed by poor coordination, convulsions, coma and death.
☠️Lily - the entire plant is toxic for cats: the stem, leaves, flowers, pollen, and even water in the vase! Cats are curious creatures and eating a small piece of a petal, licking few pollen grains while grooming, or drinking water out of the vase can cause fatal kidney failure within 3 days of ingestion.

Prevention is better than cure. Avoid these plants on your property if you have pets. If you suspect that your pet could be exposed to any toxic plant / or any poison - contact/take your pet to an Emergency vet or Inanda Veterinary Hospital immediately! ☎️ 031-7621816

Our Story

Canine Country Club was established in July 2008, when it was realised that there was no boarding facility in Gauteng that we were willing to leave our own dogs at. Our dogs were used to a very large space to run and treated like family, we wanted to create the same for other people’s dogs. A place where they were looked after by people who have a passion for dogs and understand them and their behaviour and where they were allowed the freedom to run all day, every day, and just be dogs, but still be spoilt like they would be at home and receive the necessary stimulation so that they did not become bored.

We wanted to be small enough that we could provide all of the families with the necessary care and attention they deserved. We have 8 large runs and Cottages, with lush green lawn and their own Cottages were built, which we manage optimally.

6 Cottages have underfloor heating for those chilly winter nights and mornings. During the summer months we have paddle pools in for those that like to take a dip, or they can be removed for those that aren’t keen on the water. The Cottages have comfy stretcher beds which they all absolutely love and we place their bedding over. We try making them feel as at home as possible and try keeping to their routine to keep them comfortable.

We do not supply the food as we don't like to mess with the dogs tummies, it takes them about a week for their stomachs to settle. All that you are required to bring with, apart from their food and treats, is their favourite toys and a blankets. We do administer medicine as well.
