Some kind holiday makers found this little sweet girl sitting on the yellow line along the N2. She weighs just over 1kg and is covered in ticks and lice. We are left wondering where the rest of her litter is.

She is safe now though, bathed and warm and will be up for adoption in a few weeks.

Once again we are reminded that rescue never takes a holiday.

This unsterilised boy was found dumped in our holding kennels. No paperwork completed, so we aren't sure if he is a stray or a surrender but he is with us now. He is in very good condition. Completely white with a few small black spots under his fur.

He is NOT the Bullie who belongs to the tall man who usually has the signboard asking for food, and also not Dodo who lives at Waste by Rail.

Please get in touch if he is yours. Proof of ownership and mandatory sterilization required before we will release him.

This Christmas Day, we hope you have all been able to spend time with loved ones. To everyone who has supported us this year, thank you for making it possible for us to do what we do. To everyone who adopted from us, and whose furry friends are enjoying their first Christmas in a new forever home, may they bring you many more years of happiness.

Thanks to all our volunteers who spent their Christmas morning with our dogs and cats - we know they felt so loved.

Thank you Santa Cause for Paws for always making our KAWS Christmas extra special.

This year, all our dogs and cats got Revolution and Simparica to see them through the worst of the summer tick & flea season. Some shell pools for cooling down, treats, toys, and cat litter which is especially needed considering our recent influx of surrender cats and kittens.

A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored a KAWS animal through the initiative - we are so grateful.

Thank you for making it a special KAWS Christmas 🐶🐱🎅

So many thank you's this Thursday, we don't even know where to start.

The Knysna Rotary Anns blessed us with 2 major pieces of equipment we have needed for some time - a high pressure cleaner and an otoscope for the clinic. Both expensive and beyond our budget, but we are so grateful to have been gifted these.

The Thursday Leisure Isle tennis group donated a huge load of food to us. It's one of our biggest expenses each month, so we are beyond grateful for this big donation.

Margie McAlpine recently had a birthday and asked for food donations in lieu of gifts - well, she certainly has some very generous friends. Not only was there food but also bowls, peanut butter and treats.

Our cats got an early Christmas present today from Cara and her family who adopted 2 dogs from us and are regular visitors. The cattery is now equipped with a huge flat screen TV that plays cat videos on a loop. Hours of entertainment and the cats loved their first cinematic experience. It's something we have wanted for ages so thank you Cara for making this happen!

We had our staff end of year function which was hosted by the amazing Featherbed Company - they gave us an incredible lunch and Boat trip at a much discounted rate. Huge thanks to RVR Building Projects and a private donor for sponsoring this special occasion for us. It's not often we can all get together and just relax. It was so needed!

One of our volunteers made and donated the most amazing cat scratch post - it must have taken hours to complete. The cats love it!

We have had heaps of visitors just popping in, dropping off food, beds, blankets, excess medication - you name it. We are so grateful to everyone who thinks of us.

We thank you all with grateful hearts. It helps us to keep on keeping on.

Much love from the KAWS Team. 🐾

UPDATE - This boy is safe and sorted. Thank you to everone for the overwhelming response.

We are looking for a needle in a haystack. Jack needs a safe place by the end of today - we are looking for a foster for him before the end of the day. From there he wil be looking for a forever home.

He is a 9/10 yr old miniature poodle, neutered and will get his booster vaccs before he moves on to his new space. He has been an only dog but is social. Cats unknown. He is in good health and all-round a happy boy.

If you can offer him a spot, please whatsapp Belinda on 082 767 0847.

In case you are well into holiday mode, and you have forgotten which day it is - it's and seeing as Christmas time is all about family, we thought we would share some of our newest members with you.

TOMMY and ZARA are 2 more shop cats who were surrendered to us. Tommy loves a good scratch, and Zara likes to follow you around. This gentle, loving sibling duo are bonded, so we'd like to find them a home together.

LEELO is cute as a button small/medium breed who has a fighting spirit. She was surrendered to us with her sister - both contracted the dreaded Parvo and she was the only one to survive. Currently in foster with dogs and cats and is ready for her forever home.

ARNIE is one in a million - this boy definitely comes from a home and we cannot believe he was never claimed after being found as a stray several weeks ago. He is well behaved, knows his basic commands and is good with other dogs.

To adopt any of these beauties or any other of our KAWS family, please whatsapp Belinda on 082 767 0847 or complete our adoption application form online here

Our cat of the week — Bennett! 🐈⭐️

364 days ago, a week before Christmas, we found Bennett and his sisters dumped in our holding kennels. While the girls have found homes, Bennett is about to spend his second Christmas at the shelter. He's never experienced the joy of playing with torn Christmas wrapping paper, or chasing Christmas beetles, or even setting foot on grass. 🎄

Bennett is easygoing, affectionate, and gets along with people and other cats. Due to his white ears, he should ideally be mostly indoors, out of the sun.

To adopt Bennett WhatsApp Belinda on 082 767 0847 or fill in an application on our website: www.knysnaanimalwelfare.co.za

It's the end of another week, but it's and that means more weekend tomorrow!

This week has been momentous for us - something that has been a dream for over a year, finally came to fruition and we have our huge area fenced off for the dogs to run. They get to experience the freedom of running off-lead in a safe place. Thank you Knysna Municipality for making this possible!

A scaredy cat, called Juno, has been safely coaxed out of her shell - thanks to her foster mama for working so hard to make sure she knows she is safe and loved.

We received a massive donation of food from Knysna Superspar - thank you for always thinking of us. It's really going to help over the Christmas season.

Our Colour Run is in full swing - join us next Sunday at Totties Country Market for some holiday fun. Tickets can be booked online here https://www.quicket.co.za/events/293978-kaws-colour-run/ #/
There will be very limited tickets available on the day so make sure you book your spot!

We have had another great number of adoptions. Thor, Blossom, Bluebell, Maria, Pablo, Felix and Maggie all found their forever homes. Louis and Katie went to the most incredible foster to adopt home together. Peanut and Lilly also went to their forever homes, as did Callan who will be making his way to East London.

We know it's a hectic time of year for everyone. We are so grateful for all the faces who pop in to wish us a happy festive season, who drop by to give just a little something to the animals for Christmas.

If you are still looking for a stocking filler, don't forget our KAWS Calendar that is for sale at several outlets all over. They are only R100!
Watch out for our Christmas Wishlist that we will post later this week, if you are looking to donate but not sure what we need.
You can also sponsor a sterilization (R350) or Kennel (R400) for an animal in need - what a great Christmas gift for the person who has everything.

We wish you all a safe festive season. We don't take many breaks at this time of year (animal welfare doesn't go on holiday) but we will be closing early on some days to give our staff time to be with their families. Details will be posted soon.

This holiday season, consider a meaningful gift that can change lives. Did you know that an unspayed female dog can produce over 60,000 puppies in just six years? By supporting sterilization efforts in our community, we can prevent unwanted litters, reduce the number of stray animals, and lighten the load on our shoulders.

When you sponsor a sterilization this Christmas, you’re making a lasting impact on the lives of animals in our town and helping to create a brighter future for them.

🎁 The cost to sponsor a sterilization is R350, but every contribution counts—no donation is too small! Your generosity will be greatly appreciated.

It's Welcome Wednesday and we've got the most beautiful family to introduce!

Meet mom cat, BOBBY McGEE, and her girls, ALICE, JOLENE and LAYLA. (Can you guess the theme?)

The kittens are only 8 weeks old, so they MUST go in pairs, or with one of our other kittens. They love to play, with toys or with each other, so they'll need a buddy who can keep up with them.

When their batteries are low after zooming around, the girls like to recharge with a cuddle.

Their mom, Bobby, has done an excellent job raising them, but she's now ready for a home of her own. She loves catnip, being outside, and a good scratch on the rump.

To adopt Bobby or a pair of kittens, please Whatsapp Belinda on 082 767 0847, or fill in an online application here: https://knysnaanimalwelfare.co.za/kaws-cat-adoption-application-form/
