Dr Anna Hielm-Björkman is the lead researcher at DogRisk, the only independent and University-based research group in the world, analysing the connections between diets, environmental factors, and chronic diseases that affect dogs.

Dr Anna started DogRisk in 2009, where she is the senior researcher. She is also a teacher at the Department of Equine and Small Animal Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Helsinki in Finland. Dr Anna's main areas of interest are preventative medicine, why chronic diseases in dogs and humans occur, how the disease process proceed and the role of nutrition in both. She also has a strong background in chronic pain management, acupuncture, other "non-conventional" therapies, un-heated dog foods (also called raw, fresh or BARF) and nutraceuticals.

DogRisk is an independent research group at the University of Helsinki, Finland. They study the connections between diets, environmental factors, and chronic diseases that affect dogs, including cancer, diabetes and epilepsy.

Through their research, they show how dog owners can make informed decisions about their dog’s diet and the factors they can change, which will benefit their dog’s health and help them to avoid these chronic diseases.

We sometimes forget that treats are part of our pet's total diet. Treats could have the potential to make or break the holistic approach to a balanced diet.

It's important to remember that your choice of treat may undo some of the benefits of a fully raw diet. Grain-based treats, or other store bought treats may contain artificial flavours and preservatives. The Pawsome Story ❤️🐾
The proof is in the pudding… or rather, the puppies!

This particular story begins with the rescue of Nova, a malnourished, distressed and very pregnant German Shepherd. She was immediately started on Pawsome Raw to meet her urgent need for high quality nutrients and building blocks - both for her, and her growing pups.

Nova continued on her Pawsome Raw diet after whelping, boosting her milk production and making sure that - from day 1 - those little bellies got their daily fill of the essentials for their growth and development. Nova thrived, strong enough to enjoy being a proud and present mum to the fullest.

Our Complete Minced meals are in fact just what they say and daily contain all the nutrients required by your pet. When you look at our Meal Plan you will see we have interspersed the Complete Minced meals with various “bony meals” like heads, necks, kneecaps etc, which is fantastic stimulation for dogs, together with other health benefits - chewing bones (the correct ones) releases endorphins in dogs, which in turn relaxes them, as well as cleans their teeth - surely you'll agree this is a great bonus. NB!!! Never ever feed your dogs any weight bearing bones from a butcher or any cooked bones. Dogs were not meant to digest these and their digestive system cannot cope. Our top grade premium quality nutrition is manufactured with passion, love and dedication by Retha and her team and is tested by our ever-so-critical-beagle-connoisseurs (10 of them... yes we have 10 of them and do not forget about Havoc the wanna-beagle and Reilly our 2 year old IWH) to ensure only the best - your dogs would be eating exactly the same food as our 12.
