Garden Route Horse Trails still offer a unique adoption program where young and old can learn more about horses and trail riding, in a safe non competitive environment. Please find below a summary of the different packages and a short explanation of them.

🏇 Rides and what they entail
It is important to know that we are not a riding school for competitive riders going into the arena riding and do not ride in an arena or ring(unless we are prepping or playing with the Western Games for fun). The program is ideal for riders who's game to try new things, riding around in large enclosures on a scenic fun farm and just who just want to come and enjoy riding and learning with horses. Riders have to have had some previous riding experience on horseback, though lessons can be given to better the riding skills and horse knowledge.

📍 Costs
> R1000 X2 times per month/4weeks
> R1500 X1 time per week for 4 weeks/month
> R2000 X2 times a week for 4 weeks/month
Sessions are usually 2 hours a time but can go up to 3 hours sometimes and includes time to fetch and saddle the horses. Any slot is available from Monday to Friday and no later than 5pm. You'll be shown how to fetch, prepare and saddle your own horse before going on a ride.
You'll also have preferance when we have fun trail rides and Western Games' days but the costs per trip will be ontop of the monthly fee.

🐴 Horses
We have a total of 5 horses to choose from, each with their own personality and can guarantee great fun for any rider to enjoy. Please see our website for more information regarding our horses or even better, come and meet them in person and let us see who suits you best. We can even incorporate a short test ride and see how you work together and if you understand each other properly.

🗺️ Location
Just opposite NMMU University on the Seven Passes rd to Wilderness Heights. Please note that prior booking is essential as we are not permanently on the farm.

Hi everyone.
We hope you're all doing well and are looking for another adventure on the horizon.
This one will be a fun trail ride for both our Walk & Talk riders and the Adventurous ones.
The first and last 5.4km are easy going and can be done at a fast or slower pace thus safe for all riders-this is also the picnic spot and the first place to turn back. The other 4.5km to the top are a bit more technical and can be done up to the point where you're comfortable with before turning back the same way you came-slow and steady is better for the safety of both horse and rider but the views definitely make it worth it... The full pass, from the start at Witfontein to the top of the Montagu Pass, is 9.9km, thus 19.8km all together there and back if you do the full route.
Shoes or boots for this ride is a must, unless you know your horse has hooves of stone.
Closing date: 6 April 2025
Times, final info and payment details will be given after the 6th on the whatsapp group that we'll add you to once you've made your booking. This is a calm and relaxed trail for riders that want to take things slow and easy and mostly just enjoy the stunning scenery. It's ideal for horses and riders getting use to group rides without the craze of a canter or a gallop to stir things up. The terrain is mostly soft and the pace is strictly walking, with maybe a trot here or there(if everyone agrees) but will include some ups and downs(nothing too steep to worry about though).
