What's the difference between broiler chickens and hard body chickens?

Broiler chickens are chickens that are grown for around 6 weeks and slaughtered for eating. Theese are are the typical chickens you would find at your commercial shops and buy and braai outlets. The meat is soft and tender. Broiler chickens are white in colour and smaller in size.

Hard body chickens are chickens grown longer for around 4 - 6 months or even longer. These chickens are also known as layer chickens which lay eggs and only sold for eating at a later stage. The meat is much more tougher and also referred to as hard body chicken. Hard body chicken is brown in colour and bigger in size.

We see a lot of consumers don't understand the difference between the two chickens. Hopefully this post helps with a little education 🙂.
