Currently serving in South Africa with Christian Veterinary Mission. I am working as a volunteer for nine years teaching students at North-West University in Mafikeng, South Africa at the Dale Beighle Center for Animal Health Studies. Well, it is long past time for an update. Many of you will have read in my last prayer letter that I was accepted for a veterinary dermatology residency in British Columbia. That, unfortunately, has fallen though. The work permit was not expected to come though until Oct or later and there was no flexibility in the July start date for the residency.
For now, I'm continuing as a relief veterinarian with my own business, Quam Relief Service, PLLC. So far, I'm really enjoying relief work and the Lord has provided continuous work through Sept.
Although I'm really disappointed not to start the residency, I have to admit that moving to a different country so soon after returning to the US was a bit intimidating. This will give me a year to settle in and get back in the flow before applying again next year.

I think the boys are glad to be back with me.

For those who read my latest prayer letter, I unfortunately didn't get matched with a residency on Match Day, but I'm in communication with a couple of positions that are still open. I would appreciate your prayers in this process!

It is now less than 2 weeks before I fly back to America! Thanks to you all, half of the >$2000 costs for shipping my two cats back to America have been covered by your generous donations! Unfortunately, full payment of these fees will be due next week. If you are able to donate to get us closer to 100% that would be amazing! Thank you so much!

Time is getting close for me and my cats to travel back to the USA! My flight costs are covered by CVM, but getting the boys back home is my responsibility. If you are able, please help me cover the costs of their transport. So far we have raised about 25% of the cost!

Time is flying by and my move home to America in March is quickly approaching. One of my biggest personal expenses in moving back to America is flying my two cats back to the USA. The total cost for this is about $2000 and I have set up a crowd sourcing page to try to help cover this expense. If you are able to help me bring my two boys home, I would really appreciate it! https://www.backabuddy.co.za/rebecca-quam-5824966524155380051

Yesterday was our day of rest on the trip. We visited the mountain that is the symbol of Lesotho, toured a cultural village where the students has an opportunity to ride a horse, and visited a rural homestead where we had a traditional meal of sour sorghum porrage and a sorghum and bean dish.
In the evening, we helped the youth of a local church learn a method of sharing the gospel.

On Saturday, I will be taking a team of 12 Acts 29 students to the kingdom of Lesotho to spend a week volunteering at an orphanage. This is an opportunity for them to put their faith into action and share God's love with the babies and children at the orphanage. Please pray for safety as we travel (8 hrs each way), for good health for everyone, and for the students to find joy on serving.

Today is Heritage Day in South Africa, a national holiday. In honor of this, the Acts 29 team and I put on a Christian Heritage Day Conference including talks on our heritage in Christ, leaving a Christian legacy, Christ and culture, and developing a personal mission statement.
We had 52 students attend and enjoyed a great braai (South African BBQ) lunch with beef, a curried carrot salad, pap (stiff corn meal like polenta), and a tomato and onion gravy.
The Acts 29 students really put in a lot of work doing most of the cooking (the guys started braaing at my house at 5:45am this morning! ) and most of the talks.
So proud of these guys!
