Dogs have the most incredible sense of smell - and there are several reasons for this fact!
🎀 dogs have 300 million olfactory receptors (compared to human's 6 million) -making them able to detect 1 drop of a substance in 20 Olympic swimming pools!!!
🎀 when dogs inhale, there is a flap of tissue to separate smelling and breathing (compared to us - where we breath and smell through the same airways)
🎀 when dogs exhale, the old air coming out is directed down a different pathway to the new, incoming air (unlike us, where old air pushes out new air and any smells along with it)
🎀 dogs are able to sniff continuously due to their inhalation/exhalation airflow!
🎀 the location in a dog's brain where the scent processing occurs is 40x greater than in humans!!
🎀 dogs can wriggle their nostrils independently (we can't), and are able to determine if the scent came into the left or the right nostril (hence the zig zagging movement dogs make when on an interesting scent trail!)
🎀 all the above reasons make sense of smell a very valuable information source for dogs - and dogs are very attracted to new and interesting smells.

They told me...
That my house
Smells like dog...🐾🐾
And I asked them...
Do they know what a dog smells like?...
A dog smells like :
Gratitude...
Loyalty...
nobility...
Honey...
Pure and Unconditional Love...💜
and despite all they have suffered they don't smell a grudge....
So...
I feel blessed
My house smells like dog 🐾💞

Myth-buster #2:
"A healthy dog has a cold, wet nose and a sick dog has a hot, dry nose."
This is entirely false.
Dogs and cats keep their noses cold and/or moist by licking them, and also via their excess eye tears which drain down from their eye mucosa out through their nose through the nasolacrimal duct. This aids in keeping them moist as well. The moisture on the nose helps intensify scents and give dogs and cats a better ability to pick up scent molecules in the air and glean more information from them -- such as which direction the scent came from.
A dry nose occurs simply when your dog or cat hasn't licked it in a bit, usually while sleeping, resting, focusing on something, etc. A warm nose can occur while they are sleeping, or after just waking up, and especially after a lot of activity. Nose temperature also often correlates with body temperature, which just like ours, fluctuates throughout the day depending on where we are, what we're doing, and the environmental temperature around us. Dogs and cats also naturally have higher normal core temperatures than we do, so if they haven't licked their nose recently to evaporate heat, it will warm up to the same core temperature they have -- the normal range of which is 100.5 to 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Our bodies run at a steady 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, so anything higher than that temperature will feel warm to us.
This is among the top 3 things I get in almost every single emergency triage call I take. "He vomited twice today and his nose is very dry and warm to the touch. I think he has a fever."
Unless you take a re**al temperature with a reliable digital thermometer and it reads over 102.5, your pet does not have a fever, just their usual warm body temperature.
A healthy pet could have a warm, dry nose. A pet in congestive heart failure could have a cold, wet nose. It is just simply not diagnostic in any way.

Just a dog. 🥰
From time to time people tell me “chill out, it’s just a dog” or “it’s a lot of money just for a dog.” They don't understand the distance traveled, the time invested or the costs incurred by "just a dog". Some of my proudest moments have occurred with “just a dog.”
Many hours have passed being my only company "just a dog", but not for one moment did I feel despised. Some of my saddest moments have been because of “just a dog,” and on those gray days, the gentle touch of “just a Dog” gave me comfort and the reason to get through the day.
If you also think “it’s just a dog”, then you’ll probably understand phrases like “just a friend”, “just a sunrise” or “just a promise.” “Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure unbridled joy. “Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
For "just a dog" I will get up early, take long walks and look forward to the future. So for me and people like me, it’s not “just a dog,” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the memories of the past, and the absolute joy of the moment. “Just a dog” brings out the good in me and takes my thoughts away from myself and daily worries.
I hope one day they can understand that it’s not “just a dog”, but the one that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.” So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog”, just smile because they “just don’t get it”.

African Grey parrots are intelligent and sensitive birds that can experience stress in certain situations. It's important for bird owners to be able to recognize signs of stress in their African Grey to provide appropriate care and address any underlying issues. Here are some common signs that an African Grey may display when feeling stressed:
Feather Plucking or Chewing: Excessive preening, plucking, or chewing of feathers can be a sign of stress or boredom. If your African Grey is excessively damaging its feathers, it's crucial to investigate and address the underlying cause.
Aggression or Biting: When African Greys are stressed, they may become more aggressive or display defensive behavior, such as biting. This can be a way for them to communicate their discomfort or anxiety.
Vocalization Changes: African Greys are known for their ability to mimic sounds and talk. However, when they are stressed, their vocalizations may change. They may become unusually quiet or excessively vocalize, displaying shrieking or screaming behavior.
Decreased Appetite: A stressed African Grey may lose interest in food or show a decreased appetite. Changes in eating patterns, weight loss, or selective eating can be indicators of stress.
Increased Feather Fluffing: When an African Grey fluffs up its feathers more than usual, it could be a sign of stress. This behavior is often accompanied by a hunched posture, as they try to make themselves appear smaller.
Avoidance or Withdrawal: If an African Grey is stressed, it may try to retreat or avoid interactions. They may hide, refuse to step up onto your hand, or show a lack of interest in their usual social activities.
Fidgeting or Restlessness: Restlessness, pacing, or constant fidgeting are behaviors commonly observed in stressed African Greys. They may exhibit repetitive movements or seem unable to settle down.
It's important to note that these signs can also indicate other health or environmental issues. If you notice any of these behaviors in your African Grey, it's recommended to consult with an avian veterinarian or an experienced bird behaviorist who can assess the situation and provide appropriate guidance to reduce stress and improve your bird's well-being.
