Smoky was a 4 lb, 7 inch tall, Yorkshire Terrier who served in World War II. In 1944 Smoky was found in a foxhole in the jungles of New Guinea by an American soldier who brought her back to camp and sold her to Corporal William A. Wynne for $6.44. For the next 2 years Smoky lived a soldiers life. Because she was not an official military dog, she did not get dog food or medical care. She shared Wynne’s meals and slept beside him in his tent.
The little dog even flew 12 air/sea rescue and photo reconnaissance missions, secured in the soldiers backpack. She survived 150 air raids and saved Wynne by warning him of incoming shells. Like many Yorkies, Smoky also loved to learn tricks and perform. She did so with the Special Services – entertaining soldiers in hospitals. After the war Smoky was flown back to the US hidden in a oxygen mask carrying case.
For the next 10 years she made television and public appearances in Veterans hospitals until her death in 1957. Smoky is considered the first Therapy Dog.

I died today.
I was found by a kind, sweet woman who does wildlife rescue.
I was so sick, I could barely open my eyes.
She took me inside, cradling me in her warm arms, and made me warm and comfortable.
I opened my eyes and looked at her and thanked her for making my last few minutes as comfortable as possible.
But I was too sick to keep fighting anymore.
I had eaten a mouse that was poisoned, and it made me very sick.
I closed my yellow eyes for the last time and went somewhere else.
Please, all I ask is never use poison to kill the mice.
Poison kills owls, like me.
All I wanted was a mouse for dinner.

Stop the use of poison for rats or mice.
Live traps are the best to use. Catch and release.
Please.
Save a precious life today, because all life is precious.
It only takes one share to spread the word.

Believe it or not, the state of your pet’s feeding and drinking dishes play a crucial role in their overall health. Dirty bowls are a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. Wash and scrub their water and food dishes with hot soapy water. Running them through the dishwasher's hottest cycle to get them clean and sanitized is even more effective.

🤬Crates Are Cruel 😠 - why would you buy a dog to put it in a crate!?!

"My dog is scared of a crate so I won't put him in one"
"Crates are ABUSE"
"I got my dog to love not lock away"

These sort of statements we hear all the time, so why do we believe that every dog on the planet should be crate trained?

Well if you look back at our fireworks post we state to create a den like environment for your dog to help them feel safe. We litreally had 100's of comments and messages from social media thanking us as for the first time there dog was not petrified of the fireworks. The answer the crate!

Dogs love a den like environment, it helps them feel safe, it is a place for them to go when the house is perhaps a bit too busy or someone new is in the house they are unsure of.

A few reasons to crate are:
✅Imagine the first time your dog goes in a crate is at the vets.. This won't be a great experience for them.
✅Recovering from surgery and the door goes. Crate saves their legs.
✅Fireworks!
✅A safe place for them.
✅It teaches them to switch off!
✅It reduces the development of separation anxiety
✅If your dog is destructive it keeps them and your house safe!

If your dog is always on the go and never seems to switch off they will end up with a broken sleep pattern and as we all know that is not a good thing!

If you think of a crate as a prison then you need to change your mindset, it is more like a cot for a baby.

Once a dog is crate trained you leave the door open and allow the dog to choose.. 9/10 times they will choose their crate.

Tail-docking is illegal if it is done for so-called cosmetic purposes.

Section 2(1)(a) of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962 clearly states that any person who maims an animal, is guilty of an offence. These procedures are usually performed by owners while the puppies are fully conscious.

Tail-docking is painful and can cause lasting pain and sensitivity. A dog's tail is an important communication mechanism to people and other dogs. This does not include medical reasons, e.g. to prevent recurring infection, to address a serious injury of the tail or any condition that compromises the well-being of the animal. These procedures may only be perforned by a veterinarian under general anaesthesia. The ear-tipping of feral cat colonies for identification purposes is also allowed, providing that the cat is adequately anaesthetised. It is usually performed when the cat is being sterilised.

Animals are not commodities. They are sentient beings with physical and emotional needs, and they should be treated as such at all times and all circumstances.

And they are so grateful when they actually find a loving home

Do you think your children will maintain interest in their pet rabbit as they navigate the years of growing up, attending school, forming new friendships, and eventually moving out? These significant life changes are inevitable, yet the responsibility of caring for rabbits will persist, requiring constant attention.

Every pet is a huge responsibility yet rabbits are perceived to be an “easy” pet. It’s so common for rabbits to be left in a hutch and forgotten about or given up to a rescue when the novelty wears off.
