Pawsitive reinforcement is widely recognized as an effective and humane method for dog training and enhancing a dog’s overall well-being. Here’s why:

𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙍𝙖𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙍𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨: 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙁𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙭, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙪𝙘𝙠𝙮 𝙋𝙪𝙥! 🐾

On one of our outreach missions, roughly 10kms outside of White River, we found 𝙁𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙭 - abandoned, yet full of hope. We couldn’t leave him behind, so we brought him to safety and gave him a name fitting his spirit: Felix, which means Lucky or Blessed in Latin.

Felix is now being sponsored by Lowveld Canine Coaching at Pro Life Pet Rescue, where he’s receiving all the love and care he deserves. He’s around 6 years old and looks like he might be a Belgian Malinois mix, with a heart as big as his paws. Despite his rough start, Felix is eager to find his forever home, where he can curl up in a cozy spot and soak up all the love.

To ensure Felix transitions smoothly, we’re also sponsoring his coaching and training sessions. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙮!

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆!
Meet our Leading Ladies: Five famous female dogs in history 🐾

In the late 1920s, an American woman named Dorothy Eustis was inspired by the work done by the first-ever guide dog school in Oldenburg, Germany. Following the success of 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗱𝘆, Dorothy went on to set up her own guide dog school called The Seeing Eye in Switzerland in 1928 and another the following year in New Jersey.

𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝘆, a tiny Yorkshire Terrier, was discovered in a New Guinea jungle in 1943 by an American soldier. He was later sold to Corporal William A. Wynne for two Australian pounds in a poker game. Smoky accompanied Wynne on all of his missions, even enduring 150 air raids and parachute jumps. She warned him of incoming shells and guided him to safety, earning her the nickname “angel from a foxhole.”

𝗟𝗮𝗶𝗸𝗮, a stray terrier mix, went from rags to riches when she became the first animal to orbit the Earth in 1957. Selected for the mission aboard the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik 2, Laika soared to a height of 2,000 miles, earning the nickname “Muttnik”.

𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲, a Labrador Retriever guide dog, showed extraordinary courage on September 11th, 2001, when she led her owner, Michael Higson, down 78 floors from his office in the World Trade Centre.

𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗮, a mixed-breed dog trained to detect explosives, stands out for her exceptional service to the military. She completed 400 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, saving countless soldiers’ lives. In 2012, Lucca lost her leg in an IED blast, ending her military career. Her outstanding service was recognised with the PDSA Dickin Medal, the dog version of the British Victoria Cross, making her the first US Marine corps dog to receive this honor.

Our good 'ol 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙧 fun fact for the day! 😉🐾

Did you know that Merocrine Sweat glands, located in your dogs paw pads and on the nose, function similar to human sweat glands. They only produce only a tiny amount of sweat. It can be why you sometimes see wet paw prints on a hot day.

Apocrine glands, on the other hand, are found all over the body and only produce a scent, like body odour. These do not aid cooling.

The main way however for dogs to cool down is panting 🐕

Feel good Friday!

This 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆, our team at 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at Lowveld Vet during their annual sterilization campaign.

These adorable pups traveled all the way from Msholozi, and Lowveld Vet's amazing team works tirelessly to raise the necessary funds for their procedures, medicines, and care.

We spent the day ensuring each pup felt safe and loved, doing everything we could to make the experience as gentle and comforting as possible. It was a day filled with wagging tails, wet noses, and lots of cuddles.

Our hearts were full as we saw each pup off with a special goodie bag, knowing they were returning home healthier and happier. ❤️🐾

We received so many donations from a wide variety of volunteers. Thank you to our handlers for spending the day with us, giving out blankets and treats to the pups at Kabokweni, and biscuits and gifts to the local dog owners 🐾

𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬... Some experts in dog behavior estimate that the average dog has intelligence similar to that of a human toddler. Like a 2-year-old child, dogs can understand between 100 and 200 words. They recognize the words in verbal commands as well as commands that are given with physical gestures.‌

Dogs are also capable of problem-solving. They can figure out the best path to get to a favorite toy or treat... They can learn to push buttons or operate latches to get into a space that’s blocked off. Some dogs can even learn to count and do simple arithmetic!

Motivated by the heartwarming story of Phutu Pup Kabokweni, a rescue dog from Kabokweni, we are launching a blanket drive aimed at collecting blankets for all dogs in need within the Kabokweni community.🐾

Join forces with us for a Pawsitive Impact, part of the Lowveld Canine Coaching Outreach Program!

Simply drop off your blankets at any of our LCC class locations to contribute towards keeping all the puppies in Kabokweni warm and cozy this winter!

Beyond providing physical warmth, our blanket drive is a symbol of compassion and solidarity within our community. Together, we can spread warmth and kindness to our furry friends, reminding them that they are loved and cared for.
