This holiday season, let’s spread the love and fill those furry bellies! Lowveld Canine Coaching is hosting a Santa Paws Food Drive to collect food donations for our friends at Pro-Life Pet Rescue and SPCA White River & Nelspruit.

Our good 'ol 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙧 fun fact for the day 😉🐾

The age of eruption of adult teeth in dogs is between 3-7 months of age. Adult dogs should have 42 permanent teeth, as compared to humans who have 32 teeth.

Their upper jaw has 20 teeth, while their lower jaw has 22 teeth.

𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖 𝙙𝙤𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙖𝙙𝙪𝙡𝙩 𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙝.

Periodontal Disease - The most common reason for a dog to lose teeth is because of advanced dental disease in its mouth. Without proper dental care - like brushing - periodontal disease can lead to diseased gums and decaying teeth.

Trauma - Your dog’s teeth can be lost through the process of trauma - whether it’s caused by chewing something or they sustain another injury to their mouth. To protect your dog’s teeth, it is best to avoid giving your dog things such as beef bones or pork bones, as these materials can be too hard and commonly results in fractures and tooth damage.

Tooth Decay - Dog teeth decay and wear and tear at a much faster rate than human teeth. They use their teeth to pick up, carry, and chew objects. Some dogs (particularly small breed dogs and Greyhounds) develop tooth decay at an alarming rate, necessitating the extraction of numerous teeth by a veterinarian over the course of their lives.

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙏𝙤 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘿𝙤𝙜𝙨 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙇𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙏𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙝

By the time they're 3 years old, more than 80 percent of dogs will develop some type of periodontal condition, including gingivitis. This means your dog's teeth need to be brushed regularly to prevent dental disease. Giving your pup dental chews is a good idea, and you'll need to take him to the vet for a thorough cleaning every so often, too.

If you notice that your pooch seems to have trouble chewing or you have other concerns about their teeth or mouth (including bad breath!), talk to your vet to find the right course of action to keep those chompers healthy.

𝙄𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙙𝙤𝙜 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙤𝙬𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩?

Keep an eye out for signs of overheating, like excessive panting, drooling, and lethargy. If you notice these signs, take action! Move them to a cooler area, offer fresh water, and use a damp cloth to help cool them down. Let’s keep our furry friends safe this summer!

Recent molecular evidence shows that dogs are descended from the gray wolf, domesticated about 130,000 years ago.

But if they all share a common ancestor, why do toy poodles and Great Danes seem to have little in common? Years of selective breeding by humans has resulted in the artificial "evolution" of dogs into many different types.

Happy 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘿𝙤𝙜 𝘿𝙖𝙮! International Dog Day was first celebrated in 2004 by animal welfare activist and pet lifestyle expert Colleen Paige. Ms Paige chose the date of August 26 in particular as it was on this date that the activist's family adopted their first dog "Sheltie" from the local animal shelter. 🐾The day was officially adopted in 2013 into the New York State Legislation. The official website of the event said, "Our mission is to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort."

𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙍𝙖𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙍𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨: 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙁𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙭, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙪𝙘𝙠𝙮 𝙋𝙪𝙥! 🐾 On one of our @phutupupkabokweni outreach missions, roughly 10kms outside of White River, we found 𝙁𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙭 - abandoned, yet full of hope. We couldn’t leave him behind, so we brought him to safety and gave him a name fitting his spirit: Felix, which means Lucky or Blessed in Latin. Felix is now being sponsored by Lowveld Canine Coaching at Pro Life Pet Rescue, where he’s receiving all the love and care he deserves. He’s around 6 years old and looks like he might be a Belgian Malinois mix, with a heart as big as his paws. Despite his rough start, Felix is eager to find his forever home, where he can curl up in a cozy spot and soak up all the love. To ensure Felix transitions smoothly, we’re also sponsoring his coaching and training sessions. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙮! As a member of the SaturGrey Oldies Club, Felix’s adoption fee has been reduced to just R400, and he comes fully prepared - sterilized, vaccinated, dewormed, and ready to be microchipped. Feel good Friday! This 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆, our team at 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at Lowveld Vet during their annual sterilization campaign. These adorable pups traveled all the way from Msholozi, and Lowveld Vet's amazing team works tirelessly to raise the necessary funds for their procedures, medicines, and care. We spent the day ensuring each pup felt safe and loved, doing everything we could to make the experience as gentle and comforting as possible. It was a day filled with wagging tails, wet noses, and lots of cuddles. Our hearts were full as we saw each pup off with a special goodie bag, knowing they were returning home healthier and happier. ❤️🐾
