I am deeply saddened to inform you that ENR Snow passed away unexpectedly earlier this week, tragically taking her litter with her. The reason for her passing remains undetermined, but its suddenness has been devastating. She was a remarkable animal with immense character, and her loss will be profoundly missed.

Snow had a litter last week. Although this post is a bit late, I can confirm that the litter is 5 strong and everyone is happy and healthy.

I know we have been very quiet lately and here is why.

The RHDV has recently gotten into South Africa and it has been devastating. I was worried but was untouched for quite some time. Then in August this year,I had to go to George for a 2 week long practical session for my studies.

The Saturday we left the worker brought in a new grass bale for bedding for the rabbits. Monday morning I got a phone call and so it started. Fatalities everyday. Some days just one some days more. One day we had 12 mortalities. It all happened so so fast. The Rabbitry went from 60+ rabbits to 4 young kits who were a couple days from weaning.

It was a hard hit but there was nothing anyone could have done. It took a week and a half to wipe me out. I came back home to 4 little ones and all I could do was hope for them to survive. And so they did.

I was left with 2 New Zealand White males, 1New Zealand White female and 1 Rex/New Zealand White Cross.

In October both females, each paired with a different male, got pregnant and gave birth to beautiful litters that have given us hope.

The Rex cross gave us 6 kits and the New Zealand White gave us 9 kits.

And with that our story continues.
