Hatch Day - 27 November 2023

Introducing Miss Betty Boop and her clutch this morning 👑

We were surprised when we did our usual morning routine in the snake room and we saw her piled on her eggs 😁

A total of 5. Unfortunately we discovered 3 of them were slugs 😑, but considering this our first, we are abundantly blessed with 2 healthy eggs 🙌

I had missed the process of moving the eggs from the mama to incubator, cause I work on Saturdays 🙄🙄🙄

Whilst removing them, Betty got quite protective of her babies and she made sure to give Robert a lekker strike on his hands 😂

We want to thank Brian The Snake Hut for always being able to assist with incubation setup and always giving us rookies the best advice 🙌☺️

Betty is healthy and had no issues of being egg bound. Her enclosure was cleaned afterwards and her condition looks good 😋.

Tub systems or display enclosures?

Different keepers will have different opinions.

We loved the idea of keeping our babies in large display enclosures, but this past winter has been a challenge. Temps kept dropping, humidity didn't reach a good level which lead to bad husbandry.

We made a decision to put tubs into trial. Temps started staying consistent, humidity was much better. Our ball pythons started having good sheds all the time. They didn't seem so stressed out anymore. We love to free roam them very often so they can get their daily enrichment on the grass 🐍
