How gorgeous is this girl?
I sat with her today and she felt comfortable enough to snuggle up and go to sleep.
She is just gorgeous, not a mean bone in her body. The OTHERS were of course excluded from the session.

Our Donks were upgraded from luxury stables to presidential suites yesterday.
Unfortunately they never got the memo of the intended move and were very unwilling to vacate their old premises.
It took a lot of persuasion.

Our newest intake at Be Our Guest is Goosey Lucy.
The Featherd Fu***rs are not happy about this but I am. As I am the boss ( sometimes) my word will be the final one on this. She stays.
She is not happy about them and they are not happy about her but she has a thick skin and pays them no attention. At least there is just cold fronts all around and no war so to speak.
Yesterday she followed me around the garden as I was watering the plants . She took great interest in my pottering and kept me entertained with her chattering.
She is friendly and takes her food from my hand. I think we are going to get on just fine. As for the OTHERS they are walking a fine line at the moment. Mommy likes Goosey Lucy. The end.

Oupa is a ladies man. He is also a measured kiss dealer. Look how he positions himself, the next photo he edges closer and in the last photo he is victorious!!!
He is so happy to be surrounded by these two beauties.

Look at the cloud. It looks like a big bird holding its wings over the farm.
My happy place.❤️

At some stage in our lives we no longer see that young, mischievous little horse that use to make your heart beat faster as you drive towards the stables wondering what sort of hell or heaven ride you were about to have; instead after many years of endless amounts shows, training, outrides, kilometres of travel and some goofy stuff; we now see a more mature, wise and ageing friend. Who can no longer give you what he/she use to, so the decision to retire comes to mind. But what does one do? Do you keep them with you or send them to another yard? Will they be cared for? What? When? How? Why? So many questions jump to mind when you find yourself having to makes decisions about the last leg of care for your beloved friend.
I understand all of this. I have six of my own that I share with my mom and there is just one major law we live by in our family. No one gets sold or given away. So they stay with us, until their last breath. We care for them and make sure they are happy.
When we competed and stabled our ponies/horses at yards, we were the pedantic owners - the difficult people - of the yard. I think the yard managers would give a little shudder when they saw us driving in or our names on the cellphone screen as it rang. We wanted the best for our four-legged family members. And nothing was too much when it came to their care. After a while we went solo, we found a place where we could rent stables and do everything ourselves.
So now we are our own worst enemies. As I said, we have 6 horses.....and....2 donkeys, 3 goats, and last but not least 2 sheep!
All 6 of our horses are in their senior years as well as the two rescued donkeys. I still have my very first pony that I received as a Christmas present in 1999. This year he will be turning 30! I won’t lie, it isn't easy looking after a senior horse. They come with more issues that you need to look out for. Missing teeth is one of those issues, as well as their mental state of mind. Not many horses enjoy retirement - going from stable to paddock then paddock to stable and mostly just eating - and I find that is a very difficult issue in itself to deal with. But the horse comes first, IN EVERY SINGLE WAY!
For this and many other issues, I wanted to be able to give a ‘final’ home to horses and ponies who have given their all to their owners, where they could be just what they were meant to be - a horse. If they allow it, they get to spend their final years in a yard were their is absolutely no stress, and no hustle-’n-bustle of a competing yard.
They get to spend their whole day leisurely in a large paddock either with others or alone, have lunch outside, and have all their oldie needs cared for on the highest level.
So, all I can say is that if you send your beloved friend to us at Be Our Guest Retirement Yard, they will be exactly that - our guest - and they will be treated with the utmost care and love as they spend their final years with us as part of our weird and wonderful family.
