My purchase of a purebred dog did not put another dog to death.

My purchase of a purebred dog did not lead to an increase in the number of dogs in the shelter.

Me wanting a dog with a predictable temperament of healthy bloodline didn't stop another dog from getting adopted.

My meticulous research and support from more responsible breeders is not the problem.. It's not what you should be mad at. It's not what you should blame.

It's not me who irresponsibly brought these dogs into the world and left them in a shelter. Responsible breeders aren't the ones putting dogs in shelters either.

It's my home, my life and my choice of what kind of dog to bring. Maybe I needed a working dog, a sport dog, or just a company puppy to raise a breed I enjoy. No matter the reason, my decision to support a reputable breeder did not send a shelter dog to death.

A breeder who conducts health tests, temperament tests, pedigree studies, proves to be a dog worthy of raising and only breeds when doing so benefits the breed does not contribute to the amount of homeless dogs.

The amount of homeless dogs in the world is a problem, but it's not one exacerbated by reputable breeders and those who buy them.

Your street neighbor who refuses to contain his unaltered dogs is contributing to the problem.

Your friend who impulse bought a dog at PetLand IS contributing to the problem.

That Craigslist guy who throws out the hottest designer mix as fast as he can IS contributing to the problem.

Your relative who simply HAS to let their dog have a litter "so I can experience motherhood" or because "it's so sweet" IS contributing to the problem.

Your former high school classmate who bought a high-energy working breed without taking the time to research their needs and realizing it wasn't a good option for their home ahead of time, is contributing I give it to the problem.

A reputable breeder offers his support for life. A reputable breeder would never allow their dogs to end up in a shelter to begin with. A reputable breeder has a contractual obligation to return the dogs they produced if they can't have them.

It's understandable to be angry about the number of homeless dogs in the world, but if you look deeper, you'll find that your anger is uncalled for.

If you look deeper you will find reputable breeders and those of us who buy from them are just as mad, we are just pointing out the right causes.
