Our Mandela Day projects have officially kicked off with our Meet & Greet area almost reaching completion thanks to the kindness of those that supported our initiatives during the month of July! ๐
Our Fencing Project is ready to commence, but due to the high costs of materials, we are still falling short of funds to see this through ๐

We still need to raise ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฎ ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ for this project so we have renamed this our ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฒ๐น project. The aim is to humbly request from our kind supporters to please help us purchase the much needed panels to complete this project. Each panel costs R880 and ANY amount towards this would be so greatly appreciated.

Many dogs visit our premises with their owners for various reasons including Veterinary treatment. Unfortunately it has become a regular occurance where dogs escape their owners or come off their leashes and then chaos breaks loose.
Our staff run in all directions to protect our resident dogs, cats and dearest Gilbert from being attacked or bitten. Our Kennel dogs and dog walkers are also placed at risk when these situations occur. Sadly we have had some attacks, fortunately none have been fatal (yet)! While our primary concern is for the safety of all the animals, we also fear that children, our staff or other members of the public may get attacked.
Preventing our dogs from going on walks or locking up Gilbert and our resident animals is not an option, so we are asking for your kind support in helping us protect those that we love! ๐

*WARNING: THIS VIDEO MAY UPSET SENSITIVE VIEWERS*
Early on a Friday morning the call comes through for illegal hunters in the area. Inspector Jerry Seemise was the first to respond to the call followed by Inspector Tebogo Maswanganye and soon also joined by Inspector Theo Mokgatle and our GM Inspector Pam Pretorius.
These hunters had overpowered a SAPS member and while in pursuit, one of the hunting dogs had been seen being hit by a vehicle. SAPS left the scene and when our inspectors arrived, the hunter had already placed the badly injured dog on his shoulders and started running. As the team gave chase he threw this poor dog into the air and caused further excruciating pain and suffering.
Sadly this poor animal had suffered a severe spinal injury and was in absolute agony after being hit by a vehicle, carelessly carried and then flung through the air. We had no choice but to humanely end it's suffering.
Our wildlife and dogs all suffer due to illegal hunting. Animals are ripped apart while alive, dogs get injured during the hunt with veterinary treatment rarely provided, and many suffer from malnutrition and live their lives in the confines of tiny cages - waiting for the next hunt. To their owners, this is just a sport. If one dog dies they simply replace it with another.
Please support our Inspectors and help us irradicate this kind of cruelty in our area. All animals deserve to be treated with respect, love and kindness.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It is no secret that our SPCA has been under great financial strain and there was a big likelihood that we would not get to see 2024.
Through the kind and generous giving of those who believe in us and what we stand for, it has made it possible for us to say "Happy New Year"! We are very relieved and extremely grateful to everyone who supported us in 2023 and helped us welcome in 2024!
While we may not be out of the woods as yet, YOU have given us HOPE and RENEWED STRENGTH to continue fighting for the animals in 2024!
With you by our side, we can continue to achieve great things for Animal Welfare in 2024!
Thank you for being a voice to the voiceless!
We wish all our staff, supporters, family and friends a blessed, cruelty free and happy 2024! To our staff, thank you for an incredible year! We are proud to have you on our team!

EMU ON THE RUN!
Yesterday our society received a call about a stray Emu making its way towards a very busy intersection in Glen Austin that could cause a serious accident.
Inspector Jerry Seemise responded to the call and caught up with the Emu. It was quickly ascertained as to which property the escapee belonged and with some food in hand, our gentle inspector patiently walked this Emu back home.
There were a number of times where the Emu got a bit distracted and wanted to make a run for the road, but with this not being our first Emu rescue, Inspector Jerry managed to stay calm and patient and the Emu made it safely home. A warning was issued to the owner.
Thank you to Judy Bird for her assistance and well done Inspector Jerry! We know that this was no easy task but your patience and kind encouragement paid off once again!
Please support the work that our inspectors do by considering a small donation towards our society. Without you our work and rescues such as this would not be possible!

Just look at how busy these roads are!
This video was taken by one of our team members as they tried to slow down traffic on Tuesday morning while the owner of the dogs led them to safer grounds away from oncoming vehicles.

THE MOMENTS THAT MAKE IT ALL WORTHWHILE
In our line of work, many days our team are exhausted - physically, mentally and emotionally drained.
But, it's moments such as these, that give new meaning and hope to the work that we do.
We have previously mentioned the story about dearest Cleggie that suffered from several injuries and lived a poor quality of life. His life has changed around so dramatically and this video brought tears to our eyes when you see how much an animal that you rescued is now loved.
Cleggie's mom Anthea, sent us this video and the caption read: "Yes he has even learnt to talk - has a slight frozen tinge to his accent but it has developed over the last couple of days ๐"
Cleggie's loves to play hide and seek and enjoys helping dad around the house!
Thank you to Anthea and your family for showing him so much love and for giving us hope that what we do, does make a difference!
