Thank you to Petite Paws veterinary clinic for sterilising a massive 43 dogs for us in May! You guys rock!

You guys are amazing, besides all the steri’s you help us with, you also never say no to any dog I bring in for medical, no matter the day or time of day….which always seems to be a Friday at 5pm or a Saturday afternoon!

Thank you so very much for all you do for animal welfare! ❤️

Now that is something to think about! Wow.

Dogs lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you're going to lose a dog, and there's going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can't support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There's such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.
Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and the mistakes we make because of those illusions. ~Dean Koontz

Hi there. Unfortunately the cat bite was much worse than anticipated. I went for wound debridement today and will still not be able to do any surgeries.
Thank you for all the messages and love received.

A great BIG thank you to the Veterinarians at Petite Paws and all the individuals who helped, since the 24th of September, with driving this poor puppy to the Vet every time and paying the bills. A huge big "SHOUT OUT" to you. You are awesome people.

Meet Rex, one of our ‘township specials,’ who was brought to me this week by an animal welfare co-ordinator. He had a damaged eye removed, was neutered and is ready to go home soon. As always, I am so grateful to be able to help this chap, and also extremely grateful to those who make generous donations to subsidise medical treatment for others like him. HOWEVER, it is difficult when donations come with well-intentioned conditions attached. That is especially true if the condition is that the dog is “not to be returned to his original home.” Much animal cruelty is due to ignorance as much as neglect:

* Removing the dog from his home means we miss a valuable teaching opportunity for animal welfare personnel as they liaise with the dog’s owners and neighbours on its return and follow up visits.

* Owners who have actively sought help for their dog and then not had the dog returned after medical treatment will be less likely to seek help for future sick animals. Animal welfare personnel risk losing their trust altogether. They may also advise other community members not to trust anyone who offers to take a dog for treatment.

* The likely result of not returning a dog is that the owners will simply acquire another dog and perpetuate the problem without any educational interventions with regard to the management and care of animals.

Thank you again to all those who donate towards the work of vets and animal welfare organisations who treat these cases. Thank you for trusting our judgement with regard to the animals’ welfare. I hope this helps you understand why a dog may be returned home after treatment.
