Christopher Hector talks to Isabell Werth:
You have been at the top of the sport for a long time, but you are not sitting still, your riding keeps evolving…
“I think first of all it is because of the daily training, day by day I have seven, eight, nine horses to ride, so this is training enough, and then I try always to look around, what’s happening, to improve myself also my horses. I think it is very important as a rider not to stand and say this is the right way – each horse has his own key, his own personality, his individual way of moving, his individual character. I really try to find with each horse the best way.”

As a dressage rider it’s important to be able to decipher what judges’ comments mean. If you understand their terminology, you can better plan how to improve your horse and work towards those bigger marks.

Ingrid Klimke – more on stretching to consider:
“I think it really shows he stretches from the wither, really down, and makes his neck really long, and the nose forward, that is important. Some horses crawl behind the vertical, holding their nose very tight to their chest, then you feel that the back is still tight – the stretching must be from the hindleg over a swinging loose back, and then stretch really down. You see how long his neck is and he is still saying, softy, yes, I know the way is free. My father always said, think of stretching the nose to the sand.

A month ago we were getting excited to go on a family holiday ... something that rarely happens .
We went to Ballito for what was such a lovely time away but on our last day sitting on the beach I got the call every horse owner dreads.
Karen said Enzzo is not looking good with the help of NorthRand Animal Clinic , Karen rushed him through, and they attended Enzzo immediately. Eventually having to do surgery. It was a big surgery with few complications and one they wouldn't normally perform with high risks . But Mike and his team took a chance .
Very long story... but received a call and rushed to clinic as it wasn't looking good and a sad conversation on the Wednesday about possibly having to put him down. We then spent the afternoon with Enzz as much time and love as I could as a final decision was going to be made on Thursday morning. Thursday morning, I got to the clinic early to spend my last hours with Enzz and say goodbye. Then, I experienced miracle of miracles 🙏🏻. He started to improve. Oh how my heart nearly burst out my chest !!
Enzzo has now been home a week and is happy and cheeky as his normal self. And he is alive. How blessed am I . A huge thank you to NorthRand and their team and to every person who called , sent messages, sent flowers, sent biscuits and snacks, friends who sat with me at the vet by Enzzo stable for 2 days. All the positive words and prayers 🙏🏻 it means so much to me it is overwhelming the love I felt ❤️
