Winter in the bush calls for a change of routine.

After spending time on land, this hippo heads back into the water.

During the cooler winter months, hippos often spend more time out of the water than they do in the heat of summer. Lower temperatures reduce the risk of their sensitive skin drying out, allowing them to graze for longer and even rest on land before returning to the safety of the water.
