Churchill Downs Livery Yard has stabling for 45 horses, all in large brick stables, with plenty of shavings and well-trained, caring grooms. We understand that all horses have different requirements and needs and are catered for individually, some of our horses with up to 5 meals a day. The horses are provided with grass ad lib in their stables, as well as grass in the paddocks in winter when graz
ing is scarce. Located in a quiet area within Muldersdrift and offering 21 acres, which includes tranquil paddocks, a large treed jumping arena, a 20m x 60m dressage arena as well as a lunging arena. There is also a track around part of the property, which is great for uphill, downhill work and fitness training. The horses can go out in individual paddocks with trees or shade cloth, or into group paddocks, the largest of the paddocks has a dam and plenty of trees. We have horses and riders who go to shows, and training shows, people who ride just for fun and retired horses. Boxing can be done by arrangement. All of this packaged into a friendly and welcoming environment, which is owned and managed by Kim Hopton, who lives on the premises.

Our sincerest thanks and gratitude to all that participated (whether it be by donating towards the hamper or by buying tickets). A total or R4,700 was raised towards Luna's bill, which is a huge help!

Dear friends and followers!
Our lovely yard dog, Luna, recently had cruciate ligament surgery (and when healed, will require further surgery for hip dysplasia). Our pet medical aid did not come to the party and we've racked up a small fortune in Vet bills.
To help close the gap, our wonderful community have put together some incredible items for a hamper which will be raffled on the 31 July 2024 (all entries will be entered into a randomizer, one person to win it all).
An entry costs R50, you can purchase as many entries as you would like.

Dear Churchill Downs Livery Yard livery clients,
Can you believe that our annual Christmas in July get together is a just a little over a month away?
Central Kitchen Caterers will be catering another delicious meal for us at a cost of R150 per person.
It'll be a jam packed day with fun classes, our now infamous Broomstick Brumby Dressage Class, a treasure hunt on horseback and so much more.
So that we know how many people to cater for, please can you send your numbers to Kim before the end of June.

We have a small number of stables available for livery at Churchill Downs Livery Yard.
If you are looking for your happy space, a place where your horse is given optimal care and a space where they get to be horses - then you need to come and view our property.
In addition to big paddocks, we have super facilities which include a jumping area, lunge ring and dressage arena. We often host in-house shows and will be expanding to include more options and opportunities to the jumpers.

Another beautiful Sunday morning at the yard.
We count our blessings everyday. View of our paddocks from our furthest Mare's paddock. So lucky to have all this space. Now, with the most recent rain, we look forward to plenty of green grass again.
Well, that was wild! The hail is so thick it looks like snow.
Can't wait for the rains, so our green can be restored and the gelding dam can be filled. Heaven is indeed a place on earth. Churchill Downs Livery Yard , Serenity at it's best.

Our Hobby Horse Dressage had us all in stitches. Next year, we may try our hand at 3 phase eventing!

We count ourselves lucky! In a world where development and city growth does not stop, we still have access to pristine country side. Miles and miles of tracks to enjoy on outrides.
Watch this space! We're looking at lining up some fun clinics and training events over the next few months. A little dressage, a little showing, a lot of fun and maybe even a little eventing for the brave among us!
