Illegal and reckless dumping remains one of the deadly hazards in our communities. The environment looses it's value, rats go on a breeding spree, innocent kids get diseases while collecting anything they see of value to them. Plastics pollute the environment left,. right and centre. This is the reality of most of our society. Unfortunately the people doing this are adults!
Mr. Ngomezulu has heeded our call and has decided to rehabilitate a dumping site just across his street and to turn it into a productive food garden. It's champions like him that bring about real change due to True love for their community and environment.
Tomorrow we will be donating seeds and seedlings for him to start the planting as the rains are here already.
It's never too late to shape your community. Let's do it!

Our Orange farm farmers have a monthly farm visits program whereby they visit each other and learn. It's a peer to peer form of learning and knowledge sharing system that empowers and capacitates them. There is so much for one to learn from others especially when it comes to Organic practices that work on other farms.
Farmers must Never work on silos.

Do you do farm visits? What was your experience and what did you learn or share?

Mint farming.

There are different varieties of mint our there. Mint is a medicinal plant and a herb at the same time.
It is widely used in the culinary sector
It is used in making candy and chocolates.
Fresh or dried leaves are used in food and drinks, and their essential oils are used in products like toothpaste, gum, and perfume.
Mint plants have square stems and are easily grown in moist, well-drained soil, often requiring containment in pots or containers to prevent spreading.
It may help with digestive health, alleviate symptoms of colds, and can help mask bad breath.

5 months ago I had the privilege of training Baba Zwide and other farmer's in Kwamashu. He was very passionate about farming and said his biggest regret is not starting it early while he was young. He started farming after loosing his job.
He is farming in a school premises and he just sent me some of his harvest. He is supplying vendors and some of his community with fresh Organic Fresh produce.
At 60 years old he is still determination to create an organic food system and feed his community healthy food.
Help me celebrate Baba Zwide and also Tim Abaa for bringing hope to many out there.

The African Calabash!
Our fore fathers used this precious calabash in many ways;
It's a rich source of nutrients while still young and green
It was used to store sour milk and it improves it's taste
It was used to drink traditional brew
It was used in traditional weddings and ceremonies
It was a sign of connection with the ancestral spirits
It can be used also to display seeds
It can be decorated and added as an ornamental in the houses or offices.

At some point we need to retrace our roots!!!
