Rider Wednesday…

I am Wilmien du Plessis from Paarl Girls High.

I love White Queen because they look after King so well. The grooms are loyal, respectful and care for their horses.

I would like to participate in more competitions, and when I arrived at White Queen,both of our confidence was knocked, but White Queen managed to get us back on our feet! Whenever something is not right with King, the grooms are always there the minute it happens. I couldn’t have made a better choice to move yards. The paddocks always have enough grass, and everything looks neat around the stable and the yard. There are 2 arenas, one for dressage and one for jumping. Luckily for us, our jumping arena is drainable for all the rain we’ve received. King couldn’t be in better hands! Everything is always in order. I’m so happy with the choice I made.

Rider Wednesday…. Every Wednesday we will be posting about our riders in our stables. Our stables are special due to everyone who makes it special.

We start with Lienke Conradie and Salvador

“My name is Lienke Conradie im 13yr old and im in Paarl Girls High School.
My goals for the remainder and up coming year with my horse are mostly to compete in more shows and make progress. I would like to do 90cm - 1m by the middle of next year. For me and my horse Salvador its always important to reach your goals but not forgetting to have fun while achieving them.
I could not have made a better choice to move to White Queen Stables. Its and absolutely wonderfull yard with amazing management. Before i moved to White Queen my horse’s condition was not the best. Just after a few days, my horse was looking healthy and happy than ever. Thanks to all the very lovely and advanced grooms that looked after my horse. The paddocks’ grazing is absolutely amazing and there are awesome jumping and dressage areas. Unfortunately a few months ago my horse had a foot injury. The grooms were immediately on it to help my horse recover! Also with great help from the lovely owner we managed to get Sally back up on his feet. Would not be any happier anywhere else!”

We will have 1 Stable open from 1 July as Hamilton will be going into quarantine from 20 June.

✈️ to Mauritius 🇲🇺

My special homebred baby boy White Queen’s Hamilton Z prepairing for his trip to his new owners in Mauritius. On 20 June his quarantine will start for arrival in Mauritius on 12 July.

He will be the third White Queen bred horse successfully competing. Others to watch:

Every summer we post these tips collated by our yard manager.

Do you need tips on managing a horse correctly in severe weather conditions?

Did you know when temperatures fluctuate between severe heat and rain horses are prone to colic?

When its hot, horses should have access to 50 litres of water per day, when the weather cools down suddenly, horses will drink as little as 10 litres per day which leads to compaction colic.

What can you do to supplement your horse in this heat:
1. Provide good quality electrolytes in their water as they over sweat
2. Soak their hay and concentrates
3. Provide 50 litres of fresh water per day
4. Spray down with water 3 times a day to reduce body temperatures

How to help your horse to the best of your ability? A small time roster to give you an idea:
4am feed
5am horses go out to paddocks or be ridden.
11:30 am horses come back into the stables.
16:00 horses will go out to the paddocks.
19:00 horses will come back into the stables and enjoy dinner.
