Vititec Grapevine Nurseries

Vititec brand-specific plant material is in great demand internationally and the plant improvement section has evolved into a profitable commercial business.

The objective of Vititec, who's activities started as far back as 1963, is to supply the best available viticulturally and oenologically selected clonal material, free from known harmful viruses and virus-like diseases. In this respect Vititec's laboratories and greenhouses at Picardi in Paarl offer state-of-the art facilities to enable their scientists and researchers in collabaration with leadin

g international institutions to stay abreast of new developments within the field. In terms of the Plant Improvement Law, the Vine Improvement Association (VIA) is the delegated authority which co-ordinates vine improvement in South Africa and administers the "SA Certification Scheme for Wine Grapes". As a member of the VIA, the clones developed by Vititec are registered at the VIA and the plant material thereof are issued as "SA Certified" from approved sources.

The year is almost over and there is still a lot going on . The team was busy in the young vine nurseries. The vines are looking good and healthy. It was a couple of hot days, but the job needed to be done.

It has been a busy couple of days. The team is still busy with taking ELISA samples. The team was in a table grape block. The ARRA 33 vines are looking good and the grape bunches are looking even better.

The year is almost over but there is still a lot of work to be done. The team is busy taking samples for ELISA ( Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) testing. The samples are used to test for grapevine fanleaf virus in our foundation blocks.

Vinpro is excited to announce its new pruning competition, commencing today in collaboration with Felco and South Africa Wine.
This competition offers an opportunity to the farm worker environment to develop a key competency within the primary production space.
The Pruning Competition will have five qualifying events prior to the final event to be held at Boland Agricultural School in Paarl on Thursday, 31 August.
1 August Paarl/Swartland regional at Bosman Adama Grapevines & Plant Improvement.
4 August Olifants River regional at Werda Baken.
15 August Robertson/Klein Karoo regional at Zandvliet Wines.
16 August Worcester/Breedekloof regional at Nuy Winery.
17 August Stellenbosch/Cape South Coast regional at Grondves Vititec Grapevine Nurseries.
The Pruning Competition is free of charge on condition a FELCO pruner is used during the pruning contest.
