Our thoughts and prayers are with our Trainee Inspector Nadine Jacobs who has in a very unfortunate event been attacked by dogs and were badly injured.
It was caused by a very irresponsible owner who will be facing civil chargers from the community, and animal cruelty charges from the SPCA.

We thank Roodepoort SPCA in their assistance ensuring the dogs were humanly removed from the property.

Also thank you to Beyers van Staden who offered assistance at the hospital when Nadine was admitted as well as at SAPS, and Stephan du Toit who offered assistance at scene.

The dogs were humanely euthanized as they have attacked multiple people, most who are also admitted to hospital, including children, they attacked their owner and there were multiple welfare concerns involved.

On the 8th of May, we rescued a beautiful African Harrier Hawk. Thankfully, a member of the public could see that he was not well and phoned our emergency line. We rushed to the scene. He did not make it an easy task for us to capture him, although it was obvious that he needed medical attention. We rushed him to our vet, where he was stabilized and kept in the hospital overnight, as he was severely dehydrated. We transported him to Johannesburg on the ninth to receive more specialized care, and where he was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. We are praying that he pulls through.

We regularly receive animals in need of medical care due to injuries, illness, abuse or neglect, which lead to a high vet bill.

If you feel it in your heart to contribute towards our vet account, please make a payment directly to our vet, using the reference "SPCA" and also notify us of the payment to follow up with our vet's account department.

We want to thank the public for reporting incidents like these as well as cruelty and neglect to us. Thank you for making a difference for these animals.

A heartfelt thank you to Natie and the Willow On Vaal team (their accommodation is pet friendly) for generously donating new tires for the Parys SPCA vehicle! Your support ensures we can continue our vital work. Gratitude also goes to Mrs Grove, Mrs Jacobs, Tersia (Salon Bello) and Estelle Bruwer who contributed funds, which were used to repair the engine issues after our bakkie decided to breakdown. Thank you to Hertzog and Mrs du Randt for donating second hand tyres, which we used in the interim before our new tyres were fitted.

Looking for my forever home❤️

From the pen of Madelyn Venter Inspector at Parys SPCA ✒️ The main focus and motivation of the Parys SPCA is to prevent cruelty to animals and take care of the welfare of animals. SPCA inspectors are highly trained and skilled individuals who enforce the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962. We recently had a successful outcome in a court case where an animal owners was found guilty of an offense under this act, for negligence. We travel thousands of kilometers per month to enforce this law in the areas of Heilbron, Koppies, Vredefort, Parys and Lindequesdrift. We do not stop fighting for these animals and seek justice for them. Our team works relentlessly to fight the acts of cruelty and neglect and also do inspections at various facilities. We are a Non-profit organization and need your help to bring justice to animals who suffer heart wrenching cruelty, abuse and neglect. We also need funding to pay vet bills for these animals and travel to the various locations in our area. Please donate to our Inspectorate Fund to help us help them.

Earlier this week, we found a dog food bag that was closed tightly with a piece of wire in the field across the road from the SPCA office. Inside of this bag was a beautiful cat. It is quite shocking how an animal can be treated this way. How long has she been in there? Why was she not brought to us? Instead, she was left there with no air, not understanding why this was done to her. What would have happened if if we did not see the bag? This is one of many examples of how animals are failed daily by humans. This is why we will never stop fighting for them. They can not shout out and tell their stories and ask for help. We will keep on going out there amidst public criticism at times and keep on putting in all the hours to be there for them because they deserve better.
