Hi there, my name is Monika and my first ever hunt was on the legendary Buster in 2007 in Skeerpoort. This very special pony was well known in the hunt community as an extra special superstar! He gave me my hunt career.

After that I was100% hooked. They had me by the ankle of my boot, the belt of my jods and the sleeve of my jacket. I couldn't let go!

18 years later, I have had the most privileged time, from receiving my red collar to having the honor of wearing a red coat. I have whipped in, taken the field and the hack, I have taken the drag and tried to fox the hounds on the drag , and oh what fun I have had!

If you want to bond with your horse, this is the place. You learn to trust each other, try new things, build your confidence and friendship.

When I hear the hounds pick up a scent and speak to it, it is like electricity going down my spine! Even my horses understand the significance!

What Happens at A Drag Hunt Meet?

The aim of draghunting is to test the speed and ability of hounds to follow a scent laid on a pre-determined route, as well as the courage and skill of riders and horses who follow them across country.

The riders following the hounds rely on the Field Master to lead them across the open country and take them over interesting optional jumps.

Riders of varying skills can be accommodated as there are slower fields led by experienced hunters, who traverse the course at a slower pace, avoiding the more challenging obstacles.

Friends and family of the riders and others interested in the draghunt are catered for as ‘car followers’ and are led by a guide who takes them to vantage points to view the hunt and who explains what is happening at the time.
