For those who haven’t had the chance to meet Dr. yet, here’s a quick introduction before you join us this year or hopefully in the near future! 🌟👋

Dr William Fowlds is a world renowned vet who focuses on wildlife conservation and is famous for his work in rhino conservation. This passion stemmed from his childhood days spent in the wild African bush of the Eastern Cape, home to our Vets Go Wild courses.

Will’s conservation experience is rooted in the conversion of a fifth generation family owned domestic farm, along with the neighbouring properties into what is now known as the Amakhala Game Reserve 🐘🦏🦒🦁

Will started his career in a small animal practice in the UK for 5 years after qualifying before returning to the Eastern Cape in 2002 to pursue his passion for wildlife and conservation.

Will also travels from East to West sharing his personal testimony of the reality of poaching and raising awareness and support for our threatened wildlife.🌱🐘

MEET THE TEAM🦏🇿🇦

Next up, we're thrilled to introduce you to Marissa, who is looking forward to seeing you on South African soil👋

"Originally from Washington State in the U.S., I obtained my BSc in Animal Sciences at Washington State University and trained as a veterinary nurse. I grew up with a love for African wildlife and a special affinity for Rhinos at a young age and knew this is where I wanted to be. I moved to South Africa in 2011 to start working on game reserves and in wildlife rehabilitation centres in KwaZulu Natal and recently moved to the Eastern Cape with my husband and giant dog. I am now the Practice Manager for Ikhala Veterinary Clinic and administrator and nurse for Ikhala Wildlife Veterinary Services alongside Dr. Fowlds. I am very excited to help teach the students techniques and especially excited to see their faces when they see their first rhino, because I remember my first time and the impact it had on me."🌿🐾

MEET THE TEAM🦏🇿🇦

First up, we're thrilled to introduce you to Courtney, who can't wait to welcome you this year👋

"I grew up in a small farming community in KwaZulu-Natal and recently moved to Grahamstown.

Growing up on a farm, we were always fortunate enough to have a variety of animals around, from dogs and cats to horses and cows, and this is where my passion for animals and nature developed.

In 2022, I joined the Ikhala team, and I just finished my studies to become a certified Animal Health Technician, allowing me to work primarily as Dr. Emily Baxter’s assistant, but I also support the clinic lending a hand with the small animals and farm livestock. I enjoy course season and helping the students find their feet during a new and exciting adventure!" 🌿🐾
