Its been almost 15 years since finishing "Iggy Pop" (acrylic on board 70cm x 50cm). It was a painting that kickstarted my career in many ways. The inspiration for this painting came from a trip I had to Mozambique's Hells Gate, fishing off a rubber duck 100 meters from the shore with a pushing tide and turbulent water. Three or four large GT's were spotted and seconds later I had a massive surface hit and an unbelievable fight.
This painting was sold straight away. It is still a very popular print and is available in two size options on canvas - 65cm x 43cm or 75cm x 52cm

"Salmo Trutta" 59cm x 30cm (23" x 12") Acrylic on fabriano.
Brown trout are, for me, one of the most striking freshwater fish and a real joy to paint. Their intricate markings help to break up their profile as they blend with their environment. These markings are interesting, especially looking close-up and create a fulfilling challenge to paint.

"Toman and Jump-frog" 85cm x 80cm (33" x 32") Acrylic on Canvas. This was a memorable painting. I was commissioned to do a giant snakehead painting which was a new species for me. The challenge was exciting as I poured over the internet in research. discovering much video of the snakehead in spawning mode which really got me inspired. The visual spectacle of watching their blood red babies corralling around the mother in tightly packed shoals. I did a preliminary sketch and then got stuck into the painting.

I remember seeing a BBC documentary of dorado chasing flying fish a few years back. It was thrilling to watch the hunt as the flying fish would escape the water and glide for many meters before returning to the water only to be snapped up by the predators. Although I did this drawing before watching that scene, it inspired me for many artworks subsequently.

"Ocean Banquet" 120cm x 42cm acrylic on canvas. For this painting I tried to capture a deep blue feeding frenzy with the focus on the beautiful dorado (mahi mahi). As with so many pelagic hunters, the dorado "flash" their colour as they appear "light-up" from the frenzied state of feeding. In the composition mix, I envisioned yellowfin tuna and sailfish actively feeding together.

Colosseum - 66cm x 40cm, acrylic on canvas. I started this commission last year with the intention of finishing it, but with the end of year craziness, I had to put it aside for completion in the new year. With the unfinished project on my shoulders, I was very happy to complete it to clear up the easel for the next order. I really enjoyed the break from the usual underwater themes that make up the majority of my work, so it was quite refreshing to do this medieval concept.

"Undercover" acrylic on canvas 76cm x 61cm. Nembwe are attractive with an olive green to yellow appearance, the dorsal and tail fins are lined with intense orange or red.

This commissioned painting features some of the most prominent predator species of the Amazon River, the focus though being on the payara and piranha. Adding the other species initiated intensive reference gathering to allow me to record and represent the species as accurately as possible. Creating a believable watery habitat was key, where the fish would be placed in different depth planes, some fading into the background haze while other "bursting" forward. It was with great satisfaction that the red-tailed catfish and bicuda were added, they are respected predators in their own right, their appearance was to hint to the Amazon's biodiversity.
