For 2025 the theme is "Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future".
Today we celebrate the vital role wetlands play in our ecosystem.
Highlighting the critical importance of wetlands — providing a habitat for countless species — for human wellbeing, filtering water, food, and as protection against natural disasters such as flooding.
We also recognise the urgent need for humans to restore and help wetlands function properly so they can best support all life that depends on their existence.
